Adapter working for optical blu-ray drive?

I was wondering if this Orico USB 3.0 to SATA III adapter would work on optical drives since I got 2x5,25" Blu-ray optical drives laying around I can't mount in my case and I do watch blu-ray movies and series from time to time and a slim or usb blu-ray optical drive is too expensive so if this converter would work it would be nice or do I need one with a power adapter or a extra usb connector?

This adapter got a fine price and I got a Orico USB 3.0 Docking Station and to USB 3.0 enclosures and they just work and got a really great speed.

I assume it only supplies 5V and I assume the ODD needs 12V. So probably not.

Haven't used an optical drive (or an external drive of any kind) in like 10 years now. Not my area of expertise. Good luck in your search though.

Any sata to usb adaptor with external Power supply should Work.

the problem is that 12v is needed for the big drives and you will only get that from the power supply or another power source. but if you don't need the blue-ray feature a usb DVD+RW is like 151kr (23ish $)

You have to have a 12v external power supply, you won't be able to do this with just USB connections. You can look into a 5.25" External USB Enclosure like this one: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817392100

It used to be that those things were flooding the market, and were half the price. But now that optical media is loosing popularity, that is about your only choice.

Even with the external enclosure that was suggested, you will still need 2 wires, one for power and one for data.

@DeathtoGnomes 2 wires are fine like small sata to usb converter and power adapter, but not that kit is to ancient and outdated and messy.

@newtekie1 had enclosures like that before and I end up throwing them out because they keep on breaking back in the day where I had them with dvd-burners in them.

They're available on the US site for 10-15USD

That Orico adapter would work with a laptop ODD, if you could find one. (someone please verify this)
External ODD's are pretty cheap and run off of USB. (sometimes they plug into 2 USB ports)
Get a different computer case.

Edit: It's too bad that case doesn't have water cooling ports, otherwise you could run long cables out of the case to the ODD, sleeved of course. Mod time?

Laptop SATA ODD's use a different connector called mini-SATA. So I don't think the Orico adapter would work with them.
