Advice about PC upgrade.

Hello everyone , so guys i'm planing to upgrade my PC as soon as i can and i'm going to upgrade to :

CPU: I5 3570.

RAM: that's my question should i get : 8x1 (and get another 8GB stick later) or 8 GB will be enough (4x2)
Note : RAM speed is 1600MHz.

Motherboard: Asus P8H61-M PLUS V3.

CPU Cooler : that's my second question : I want a cheap , quite , non tower cooler (i don't trust my case + i'm not OC'ing) , do you think that the Cooler Master I30 will do the job ?
Note: the I5 is non K so there is no overclocking.

GPU: i'm keeping my 750 TI for a while (950 later or something).

I would rather get Arctic Freezer i32 or Freezer 33. They are 150 mm tall, so they should fit in pretty much every ATX case and many mATX cases.

I said 8x1 (and get another 8GB later) or 4x2 and just leave it , because this Motherboard has dual channel , i mean i don't want to buy 4x2 and then i decide to upgrade to 16GB , in this case i will have to throw the (4x2 RAMs) and that's a waste.

I don't know what you're gonna do with your pc. 16gb is a must for a high end or even mid range pc, but for that config, it's better to go 2x4gb and spend that $40 somewhere else, 3570 is a pretty old cpu.

If your only running a GTX 750 Ti then 1 8GB still be fine. If you had a higher end GPU than dual channel is pretty much mandatory to get the most out of it.

So looking at the age of the system go 8GB x1 give me a few minutes ill update the post with cooler recommendations.


The CM i30 might as well just be a stock Intel cooler. You would likely find it cheaper to source a copper slug, Intel stock cooler for cheaper with better results.

The CM i30 is all aluminum. Where as certain intel stock coolers feature a copper core. with roughly the same design. Since they were included with many CPUs you can likely ebay one for a few bucks.

Buy one stick of 8GB ram, then get the second one. 16GB is a minimum these days.

And the i30 has a better mounting system.

Deepcool has one that I'm using on a Quad core Xeon system. It's the Deep Cool (Dark-Wind 1155) CPU Cooler 120mm Cooling Fan.
It's $13.39 here in the US.
It does a great job if you have clearance on your motherboard for it. (much better than Intel stock coolers)

Then grab a stock cooler with a copper slug in it. (make sure its not the all aluminum version)
The stock heatsink with a copper slug will be better than the CM i30. Easy mount should fit anywhere and again on ebay should be dirt cheap. State side at least you can find these for $7-13 Obviously your market is different. However finding one used for cheap on Ebay would be the route i would take.

Using a copper slug intel stock cooler on my 8700K test bench. The cooler was never meant for this situation yet it still proved capable of keeping the cheap cool enough to avoid thermal throttling with manual voltage adjustment at the Intel base clock of 3.7 GHz on all 6 cores under stress test.

Yes that one is fine and yes its compatible.

Socket LGA 1156 / 1155 / 1151 / 1150 etc etc all use the same mounting holes.

But u didn't answer one of my question , how loud is it under full load ? do u have any idea?

It wont be that loud. If your running the CPU stock you won't have any issues. Besides you think the Cooler Master i30 is going to be quieter? If you want ultra quiet you better spend some more money that simple.

The Intel HSF will get the job done. Just use a negative voltage offset in the bios to lower the CPU vcore. With a slight voltage drop you will see temps are perfectly fine with noise levels that should be relatively quiet.

Essentially at this point if your not willing to pony up for better alternatives. You will have to live with some tradeoffs. Most mini-ITX style coolers are loud examples C7 / C7 Cu / AR11 etc. So if you need a small cooler thats quiet your only option is to basically go with a Noctua offering for something that could be considered silent anyway.

Otherwise the Intel will compare well vs the cheap aluminum junk you were looking at. There is a reason no one has reviewed or touched the i30.

I'm asking about the loudness because i can barely hear my current Intel stock cooler.

The 3570 will be hotter, thus needs better cooling. I recall in 2011 when I first ran prime95 on my 2600k, totally at stock and with the stock cooler, it came close to 90°C.
If you're after silence, gaming isn't the best way to achieve that.
As for the ram, had to run 1 stick once, the new ram was faulty and when they replaced it, I doubled the amount with dual channel, and didn't really notice a difference.
So go for the 8GB stick, and get another one later. Most games will top out at 8GB, but for smoothness, you want 16GB since windows has more room then to operate in the background.

If you really want some longevity out of your upgrade, as already mentioned, the i7 2600 series is still a great cpu, has 8 threads, k versions usually clock at least 4,5Ghz and will play games like BF5 smooth at good frames. Because games like that, really prefer 8 threads, and i5 users had some performance issues with the beta.
