Hello there!

My Full HD, 120hz Asus monitor from 2012 just died. I'm looking for a replacement. I will leave my BestBuy job within the week, so if possible, I want to take advantage of employee pricing

I plan on doing a new build within 2-3 years, so I want to buy a 9/10 or above monitor, since I decided better to buy something good now, than buy a 200$ replacement, and then buy another, better monitor in 2-3 years (unless you've heard of anything worth waiting for 2-3 years in the monitors space?)

So, looking for:

24-27 inch 2560x1440 or 27+ 3440×1440
100hz+
I hear g-sync is better, so at least g-sync compatible, or with the g-sync module. Don't care for g-sync ultimate since crazy prices and no use for me.
I got spoiled by OLED, so now not having perfect blacks, contract, etc sucks and I hate to compromise, but from what I've read, TN is to be avoided, so either IPS or VA, w/e has the least compromises

Now, a few models I've seen after doing research, and BestBuy has them:

Asus VG27AQ (in stock)
Asus PG279Q (in stock, but kinda old model, not tempted)
Asus PG348Q (in stock)
Asus XG279Q (out of stock), could get elsewhere
LG 27GL850-B (out of stock), could get elsewhere

Other models not at BestBuy:

ViewSonic Elite XG270QG

If there are other monitors from other brands that you think are better and can find them in Canada, post them since I don't have any brand preference, but something within reason when it comes to price because priority goes to monitors I can get with employee pricing.

Thank you for your help. Who knew choosing a monitor would be so hard....when it comes to tvs, I can tell you within 2 hours of them announcing all the new models from all the brands which are my top 2...

I think the LG GL850 has the best combination of specs and price. Look at reviews on the hardwareunboxed YouTube channel they do a pretty good job.

Not sure how easy it is to get up there. Paid $270 USD for mine I believe.

EDIT: Whoops, you said no TN (I personally think the image quality and color reproduction are fine, but I've been using mostly TN panels for years).

EDIT 2: Should also throw in that I bought it refurbished back in late 2018.

HP Omen 27i uses the same panel as the LG Nano IPS 1ms 27" 144hz 1440p monitor. It was on sale $399.99 last week at Best Buy. Very high end panel. HP Omen 27i just released this month.

Keyboard Of course
Software W10 Pro 64 bit
I was going to suggest AOC AGON 27" ips But Best Buys sucks and don't carry a great range of their monitors.

Alright, so here are the prices up here for some of these monitors:

HP Omen 27i 800$, out of stock
AOC AG241QX 670$, in stock at amazon
AORUS FI27Q-P 870$, in stock
LG 27GL850-B 700$, in stock
Asus VG27AQ, 520$, in stock
Asus PG348Q 820$, in stock
ViewSonic Elite XG270QG 850$, in stock at amazon

I've seen that the Asus VG27AQ trades blows with the LG 27GL850-B, considering the 180$ price premium, i'm not sure if its worth it. Any other good monitors out there?

After much deliberation, I've decided on the LG 27GL850-B, as it works really well across the board, from 60hz to 144hz, and I game a lot at 60hz because of modded Skyrim and other performance hungry games. I also game at 144hz with Dota 2 and shooters, so yeah.

Here's hoping I win at the panel lottery.

What tests can I do to my monitor to check for dead pixels, grey uniformity, black levels, etc etc?

I won the panel lottery on mine. Well sort of, in dark scenes of games, the upper left corner has some terrible blue glow going on that really ruins dark scenes. Other than that, for most games, it is a step above most other 1440p panels easily. I played diablo 3 today side by side with a cheaper 1440p 144hz IPS and the nano-ips and night and day better on nano.

but yeah if you play games with a lot of dark scenes, i don't know.

I like my Dell S3220DGF it was in the mid $300s at Best Buy when I bought it.
32" curved 2560x1440, VA, HDR, 165Hz, FreeSync 2 but the claim is it does G Sync. I have never tried.
