advice on a very cheap not very powerful micro atx board

Nice tips from Geo. If you want to spend a little more than an Atom system, the Zotac board really is the way to go.

For direct HDMI also consider this newer Zotac, but the budget is much higher than the nForce board: http://geizhals.at/deutschland/a419730.html. This board incl. wifi so yes, you can internet on it and get your updates and your MAME downloads without needing cables. This Zotac is my fav. ITX board at the moment, and I am thinking of converting my dads old Pentium 4 Chyang fun SFF http://www.ciao.co.uk/Chyang_Fun_Mini_Barebone_CF_S968L_no_CPU__6852950 to this Zotac board.

i think you should be able to overclock the onboard graphics aswell on the zotac 610i not sure tho. every little bit helps with onboard.
