In deciding on a new mobo, should I go SLI ( dual video card slots ) and is it possible to buy 2 video cards pci express for the same or less cost than a decent single card, and then reap the benefit of dual graphics accelerators. I am looking at the new AM ( AMD) platform for this new system coming out in 2nd quarter of this year. for instance....I used a single hd for many years before trying RAID ( dual hd's. ). I like the RAID better for stablility and response and of course a speed boost, as I use only RAID 0, so I'm wondering does the same sort of mindset apply to dual video cards?

restated, so I want to get 2 cheaper video cards for about the price of a decent single video card, run SLI mode, and hope that this dual video card configuration will give me a bigger bang for the buck, or better graphics than a single card solution. I hope this makes sense.

one more expenisve card will go better thow.. providing u buy the right one.. the 256 meg x1800xt seems the sweet spot for ati at the moment.. with nvidia its probably the 256 7800 or will be shortly..

dual cards do two things.. a cheaper uprade if u already have the one card or when u already have the fastest it enables u to go faster.. buying two with the idea of more bang for buck dosnt work out.. one is better..

thow in the case of a pair of 256 X1800s i could be wrong.. he he

You're better off with a single high end card, you could always add a 2nd later. Then again they waste a lot of energy.

As for RAID, RAID 0 is not better for stability, in fact you're risking your data on such an array since you lose everything if the array fails.
