After >100hrs in Vive VR, I think there is something missing

First I wish there will be some kind of mobile power recliner. Constant standing and playing can get you really tired. A mobile power recliner with Vive wiring built in would work beautifully.

Second, we need nutrients and water to stay healthy while immersing in VR. If the tracking system can track and project food in VR it would be awesome!

And of course, visual and auditory system together may make your brain believe you are in VR. It needs the addition of olfactory sensory to complete the experience. Glad some one is already working on it.

And with some improved version of this, we can all live happily in VR forever.

Just kidding. I wonder how far we are away from actual Matrix.

As someone with a crippled left leg, I'll happily have a full muscle transplant from someone who thinks that their own body is a simple device to wear a VR headset 24/7. It's bad enough kids obesity levels are getting worse due to inactivity but it seems VR is the next logical step to the human race as seen in Wall-E.

Seriously though, I'm seriously worried about what the VR thing will do to people's libidos. Impotence among youngsters have increased sharply the past decade, probably because of porn. More immersive porn will just remove the need to even bother with the real deal at all, and if they actually venture a ... physical tete-a-tete IRL, how can any real person compete with whatever it is you're into?

It's the largest single co-morbidity factor - a sedentary lifestyle. It's my field of interest (I work in health and fitness). Seriously - we eat similar calories as we did in the 50's but the difference is everything is automated these days. The human body requires activity for it to continue functioning properly. You can actually eat and drink pretty badly but if you exercise (or are active) frequently, you tend to remain healthier compared with sedentary people on good diets.

And carbs aren't bad. Refined sugars yes, carbs no. Oats are carbs. Fruit and veg is carbs. Rice is carbs.

RESULTS:
In men, even small amounts of walking were associated with decreased risk of being <overweight> and <abdominal obesity>, while larger amounts were associated with decreased risk of being <obese>. Actually, they might very well be wrong.

You're right, carbs aren't bad per se, but then again, they're still processed in the body as glucose/fructose... sugar. There are two types of carbs, simple and complex, and simple carbs are pretty much 100% sugar.

Check out what ketosis does for kids with epilepsy... it can prevent seizures by not giving the brain glucose. What actually makes those things you mentioned good is not really their carb source, but their vitamins. And that's only complex carbohydrates.

So.. yeah. Exercise is good.. .great even. I take my 4 kids for an hour long walk every single day, never mind the other exercise they get during the day at school. They are far from fat. I bought a bunch of hobby-grade RC cars to keep them motivated to walk, and the are eager to get out the door every time.

Anyway, I wonder if the mix of VR (which requires a fair bit of movement, ie. exercise), plus a ketogenic diet might do. Probably wouldn't lead to much fat.

I have a busted up right arm. It can use a mouse, but not much more. I shattered it into a thousand pieces making contact with an invincible wall and it goes all kinds of messed up when I try to lift something more than 5lbs or so.

So I feel you. I'm on the transplant line for VR people too. Let's put them in the matrix and we can use them for clean green energy in the real world like the robots in the Matrix.

I know, I'm old-guy ranting against tech again. I actually don't see present VR as an issue but do see concerns as to where it may lead.

With current state of genomic engineering, people may not need to perform constant exercise to maintain healthy BMI at all.

My field of work is molecular biology/bioinformatics. The thing we can achieve using model organism(mouse, zebrafish) is mind-blowing just 3 years ago. We can alter metabolic pathways using nanoparticle coated with synthetic mRNA. I am sure there will be a long and painful journey until research progress can be converted to medical applications. However this shows the capability of science. Hell we are even generating a draft of synthetic human genome for possible future "designer embryos." Science is limitless. Resist all you want, but no one can stop the progress.
