Pretty much all AGP cards are old. Something like what you suggested would be ok, or you could save some money and get a nVidia 6 or 7 series card, since it's not going to be used for gaming.

Its fine for Internet usage. But as said AGP is old as of now so don't expect much.

Heres a good list of AGP cards on newegg:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...&bop=And&ActiveSearchResult=True&Order=PRICED

Thanks but i am in the uk but as for the cards the Radeon Hd3850 seems to be the best one but seems quite expensive for an Agp video card ! i am told that my relatives nephew plays some games on it but i think they are just internet games , i read that their is supposed to be an agp Hd 4650 but i cant see anyone selling it anywhere in the uk.

Well AGP cards aren't going to be extremely cheap...it's an old technology with less cards being made, therefore the demand increases price.

The fastest AGP card is the HD3850 512MB right now, it should be the HD4670 but since the drivers for that card card aren't very mature it performs lower than the 3850

the bottleneck in your case for modern games won't be the card, it will be the cpu mainly along with the rest of your system

No point in spending money for the best AGP card if the system is going to just be used for Internet browsing and internet games, might as well just throw in a nice cheap card.(like a AGP 7300 GT)

As i built this machine many years ago i would like to see it last as long as posible

It runs xp at the moment and i might change the operating system in the future so i think i will get a hd3650 for it

Why is a new card required? The current card is fine for surfing and office use?

It is getting a few lines and flickering on the screen which are a bit random (i had this problem with an old radeon 7200 agp card many years ago) at first i thought it was the drivers but it does not make ant difference when i change them.

The answer is above.

I would just get something used and cheap. Any AGP card in working order should work.

If the card is defective just replace it with some other cheap used card. Don't bother investing. Spend €5 on a card and you're set.

I think you are right but getting a cheap agp card might be harder than you think ! i bet lots of people have them in boxes in the garage etc :)

Do you have Newegg or Tigerdirect in the U.K.?(i think you guys do), cause you should be able to find some cheap AGP cards on those sites.
