Akasa announced today they are shipping the new Vortexx performance VGA cooler. Vortexx was designed by the Hong Kong based Akasa industrial design team, its brief was to improve on existing VGA coolers focusing on cooling performance whilst maintaining low acoustic levels in order to service the large market for retro-fitting VGA coolers.

Akasa is targeting the first of this new range of VGA coolers not just at the gaming market but also at those who want to ensure top performance from their VGA card.

The Vortexx provides good thermal performance with much improved acoustic levels. Two copper heatpipes connect the 60mm square copper base to the bonded fin heatsink. This cooler is designed to optimise mid-range NVIDIA and ATI VGA cards..

Ditto. The ones 9800s used a lot. Very little innovation with this "new" cooler.. yawn.

2nd! - However, I had one for my 9800 AIW - in fact I still have it. Just it's not compatible with any of the cards I have now. :(

Finally a move back to cooler that exhaust hot air out of the case rather than leaving it to rise up and cook the cpu. (looks in anger at accelero (sp?!) 2 on X1900XT)

I'm not so sure. Most exhaust coolers have the blower fan on the right leading out of the case. This seems like the opposite... I hope that is a mistake, otherwise, it is pretty stupid to have a backwards exhaust cooler...

Here's an example: http://www.arctic-cooling.com/vga2.php?disc=1&idx=63

I know the one shown in the picture will not work with the 2900 series because the GPU core is recessed below the outer support ring on the chip.

And it does look to be blowing the hot air back into the case (see pictures) :wtf:

I feel your pain - had one one of those on my smoking X1800XT the Accelero X2's has to be one of Artic Coolings worser designs - even the new heat pipe tipe coolers the S1+Turbo kit would have been a better choice then the X2's least the S1 doesnt blact hot air DIRECTLY back at the case!

Its a shame Akasa took so long to release a cooler like this. Thermaltake also has a similar design called the AT1's (etc) but I cant find a shop that sells them for love nor money.

If I had known that Akasa were going to release this cooler - chances are that I would have waited before replacing my ACX2 with Zalmans Fatal1ty FC-ZV9 (No I really hate that F4gta1ity Wendell c*nt but the cooler was much cheaper then usual so i bought it)

If Akasa were truely the leaders of cooling then why dont i see them make Water Cooling units? Or maybe release this graphics cooler much sooner like when the X1800 & X1900 were in their prime???? Im not saying that theres no market for the product but their a little off the mark in terms of time keeping.

anyway im not going to critasize Akasa, what matters is - at least the product has finally hit the market where it will really do some good for those with X1xxx series cards
