ASUS would be my preference, but that’s only because I have one and don’t know what the other would be like.

Have you got a rig powerful enough to drive that many frames? What titles are you looking to play?

All in all though, as a gaming display it was excellent and comes highly recommended if you're looking in the fast 1080p TN Film space.
It's a TN panel, you'll have color shifts but mostly at an angle, response times should be fine, plus you have ULMB. If you're dead set on 240 Hz it's either TN or more expensive IPS models that were recently released.
As for Alienware, you have to give us specific model.

Thanks.the alienware model im interested in is aw2518h.thats 25 inch g sync.i was leaning towards that monitor but sounds maybe like the asus after reading here.in my research i saw the ips monitors but are they all 27inch i hear that may be to big for 1080p with the pixels.i would take any thought on that or a good monitor in ips.thanks again!

They're both using the same panel. So it all comes down to:
- brand loyalty
- price
- specific features, customer support, etc.

No, it actually comes down to implementation. Electronics, panel uniformity, backlight bleeding can be more important than the actual panel used. No way to tell though, other than finding reviews somewhere or looking at them in a store.
