Around £80 and all i need is something thats as good as or better than my X1950XT.
What if i buy new GFX card and still same problem?

I just tried to play Halo PC which is a very old game and it still crashes at 640x480 all lowest settings

We haven't yet identified your issue yet, it might very well not be GPU related and in that case the crashing might still occur.

I'm in two minds. The fact that the x1950 XT runs on your old rig suggests that it isn't a GPU issue. However, the fact that it crashes at high resolutions and high settings indicates a definite GPU issue.

lol, "good as or better than my x1950XT" - that shouldn't be hard, I think every card in the market today is better than it.

Seriously, this is my recommendation...

Capable of playing todays games at high settings and high resolution, blow your x1900XT away.

Edit:

Also take a look at the ATI 4770, its slightly faster than the ATI 4830.

I think you should attempt to isolate your problem.

Perhaps if you post few screenshots of CPU-Z and GPU-Z might help?

Edit 3:

Everything looks normal as far as bus configurations go.

This is a very strange situation indeed.

IF your GPU is overclocked, that will cause all of your problems. Also, get yourself a better GPU. You can get a HD4770 for 100 bucks. It is a kick ass card (I am waiting for mine to come since my 4850 hit the gutter)

I managed to play Halo PC in windowed mode (so 2D clock speeds) with the command line "-use00" which is like DirectX 7

I just ran Memtest86 again and i did see something weird the settings for the RAM look weird and i cant get the to change even if i manually set it to 667Mhz. http://s638.photobucket.com/albums/uu103/sohardtogetphotobucketaccount/?action=view&current=Memtest86.jpg

This might be an issue of concern.

The memory is showing up as 466MHz DDR (933MHz). This is faster than the quoted 333MHz DDR (667MHz) the ram is rated for and hence the crashing?

One thing that I find strange though is that CPU-Z picked up 333MHz, but why is the bios picking up 466MHz:confused:

Edit:

Have you attempted to flash your motherboard to the lastest bios revision?

Yes i got the latest version but the only thing that fixed was that Windows XP wasnt recognizing the CPU.

I dont have another PSU so i cant test it, shouldnt the amperage be enough tho. Ive never seen it go above 27.27 in RivaTuner. http://www.ocztechnology.com/drivers/500wchart.JPG

That PSU should be enough, but make sure you are not overloading one of the rails. (Thats why I prefer single rail PSUs).

I assume you just have the one PCI-E connector plugged into the X1950XT?

It shouldnt be possible with your setup. But....

I havent read through the rest of thread, but what have you tried so far?

PSU
GPU
Drivers?

Ive tried with the 8.4, 8.10, and 9.2 drivers, also tried updating the BIOS but didnt do much. I removed the X1950XT and tried playing with the on board graphics and it was fine, ill try with my 6600LE later on.

Damn. I would say its most likely the GPU.

Does the PC completely lock up and require a hard reset when you game then?

No the game crashes and minimizes to the desktop. But when running FurMark it required a hard reset.

Its got to be GPU then. A dodgy PSU would normally lock the whole PC up entirely.

How quick does it crash, and do you get any artifacting?

How are your temps too.

(sorry if stuff like this has been asked, its quicker to ask again than read through all 70 posts)

Sometimes it takes quite long but it crashes eventually, about 1-30 minutes.

Using Hardware Monitor the CPU temps never went above 40C and using RivaTuner the temps never went above 60C at 100% fan speed.

Hmm, I still think GPU is dieing. I doubt its PSU, but there is only one way to find out :ohwell:
