Very recently, I have noticed some big delays in Windows Media Player. For example, when I go to fast forward a song, it can take up to 90 seconds for the tune to come on...the whole program just grinds into a freeze for this time.

However, if I disable the top SVChost.exe in Task Manager, I lose the aero effect on my desktop, but Media Player then runs like it should and with no delays.

WTF?

why are you using windows media player? Winamp is much better, as are a million other programs. I would just switch instead of trying to fix this issue, but that's just me.

I done that...and here is the report. Great! only problem is that i don't know what none of it means! When I force the svchost.exe to end via Task Manager, the problem regarding media player dissappears simultaneously with the Windows 7 Aero effect. Then, the aero effect mysterioulsy returns at some point, at which point the media player goes all to §hit again.

Another feature of this bug, is that when the svchost.exe is running, my CPU usage hits around 60-70%....until I close it.

Check Disk found no problems.

Ditch it

Sorry to be like the 2nd post but unless you for some reason must use WMP for some reason try switching to MPC home cinema or VLC.

First, I would not ditch it, even if there are other problems.

Second, I would defrag your drives, remove all music from the library folder and then put it back a bunch at a time, see if it is the music files or the program itself.

Thirdly, I would remove all codecs that you have added if any, may be some kind of conflict

Fourthly, I would then try and remove WMP and then install it again (may involve reformatting)

Or you could spend 20 seconds downloading vlc and discovering whether the problem lies with WMP/codec library or somewhere else. VLC uses a built in codec library so if have no problems with VLC u can bet you have conflicting codecs or WMP issues.

That would also work. Be best to find the solution rather than sweep it under the rug.

Why does this remind me of when my cousin bought a Ford something-or-other at an auction, which managed to catch fire on the way home?

If you use crap, expect crap.

winamp? Who still uses winamp? Since the end of the xp days that program became so stagnant, it can't even handle most HD videos without stuttering. I'd say try to work out your issue rather than downgrading. My only fear would be that it's one of those phantom things you're ever only going to fix with a reinstall.

You could try sorting your files by date added/modified and pull out the ones at the top to see if it's a specific file.

run ccleaner registry fixer too, could always be codec and registry conflicts. also, chkdsk /f /r helps too.

also, svchost using lots of cpu usage is not good, and could be a result of a virus hijacking svchost too, so do a virus scan /hijackthis log.

Boys and girls, if you are not suggesting a fix and lambasting WMP, please leave because we are trying to fix the problem rather than to find a workaround (given that OP is not dumb/fanboy enough to download another media player).

I want to know the fix too, because every so often whenever I use WMP there will be a stutter in my music. Not that I mind, because I use other players too. I think it might be the problem that your music library is too large, and I noticed whenever I start WMP, it lags for ~15 seconds before responding to me.

Have you tried to play them in wmc? This could be a bad file/virus. I have about 2,800 songs in my library the ouly time it slows is when it updates the library. Also if you have a lot of files I found it is best to put them on a seprate drive. IMO. Hope this help good luck.

I know what u mean about the slight delay that one ecounters as Windows catalouges 200GB worth of mp3s. But that is not it.

Like I explained, all I got to do to get it working properly, is to use Task Manager to force-close the top svchost.exe file and wmp. At this point, I lose the aero effect on desktop. then I load up wmp again. Aero returns and wmp works as it should with no delays. After that, I can can open and close it without any problems until the next system reboot.

So that would be the workaround. But aside from not wanting to have to go through that nonsense everytime I want to use the media player, I have conerns as to what is causing the svchost.exe to behave this way.

I will try the ccleaner thing, but if it is a virus, then my Avast free edition has found nothing.

Avast might not pick everything up. You might want to try like 10 diff scanners but that's too much of a hassle.
