Alternate good OS?

Aside from using Microsoft products all the time, Can any one here suggest a good alternate OS? Easy to set up and yet has all or even more functions than XP, and can run games built for windows? Im not a pro when setting up alternate oses thats why I want to learn on a first hand basis, any opinions will do, and if its not too troublesome please give me some links to it

GNU + Linux. Start with Ubuntu, then as you learn move onto more customisable distributions such as Slackware and Gentoo.

Not really from what I understand it has alot of drivers built into the os.

Ubuntu is a great linux distro, if your going to use it get 7.1 Feisty Fawn 32-bit.

I myself would use it as a main OS if more games supported was better.

It will tell you how to get started. The only driver issue you might face is install video drives, but that link tells you how to install them.

No thats a good rig some of the crap laptops they are selling with vista on it are no where near your pc. My amd pc has vista on it and has convinced me to stay with xp pro for now

Thanks JrRacinFan, strick94u for saying its not a POS, made me relieved lol, although it's downside is the preshot processor, but I manage to make it idle 34c and loaded at 52c with it's stock cooler and as5,

anyway will try linux

time to start a fresh

and will not migrate to vista until it has a service pack
