For months I had weird issues, my linux installs on one ssd kept crashing on me. Finally couldn't even install. I have multiple installs at all times and I checked from the one that was working.
Massive CRC errors. That's not drive issues, that's sata cable issues. Colour me dumb. Always check your smart data. Almost 1200 errors on this drive, and 0 on all my others.
A drive should never get UDMA CRC errors, unless it's a bad cable. System is rock solid again.

Sometimes the cable isn't even bad. I always start by cleaning contacts. So far that's done the trick every time. Never had a bad cable. Ever. On anything. And I'm still running almost 20 year old cables on some things.

Cheap cables do go bad... I've had to replace many. Even so called high end ones with clips.... fning asus black sata3 so called cables. Yes they do go bad dude. Years worth of cables I've had to throw
away. I keep my mobo crystal clean, and clean my fan filters on a regular basis. I have ocd!
Anyways.. I replaced the cable on the offending drive... and the crc error rate stopped. Simple.
