i use A4 size paper, used for printing, as my mouse pad (over a flat hard surface ofcourse)
This seems to be the best mouse pad ever....

only need to change it every other week.

also, brown chart paper, is another alternative which offers slightly more control if the smoothness is too much to handle.

I used to go w/o a mousepad surface at all, but recently picked up a recycled one @ my local comp store for $5.

I've never found paper that great. A good quality mat with a felt, or other matte surface tends to work most smoothly.

I have kept my ICEMAT intact since like a decade, It´s simply amazing! (subjective of matter ofc.)

So yeah glass is good to go...(will play with paper & stuff to compare)

Oh & I also have teh in/famous Logitech MX518 still intact, bought some years after the ICEMAT however Its´about to fall apart now

but m8s I LOVE this combo!

Hmm, I have not used a mousepad for ages, but ever since getting the Sidewinder X5 my mouse's feet seems to get dirty faster than I like, so an el-cheapo freebie mousepad is what I use right now. Should be better than paper, and I have not changed it for at least half a year now. Look around for freebie mousepad, and use them?

I like having/need a mouse surface (I have a very old uneven desk), I had a SteelSeries 5L, it got soft as it aged though, not a very good surface (but very wide). Right now I have some hard SteelSeries surface and I like it quite a bit. It might be a QcK.

I have a Razer exact mat. speed on one side, control on the other, best most future proof PC upgrade I ever made. have had it 3 years and it will be good for another 5 if I so choose. havent found anything better yet.

I bought the cheaper white version of this (white reflects light better for better tracking), the Razer Pro Solutions Pro Pad, and I almost ended up with carpel tunnel on my wrist. Now I just use a CM Storm Tactics mouse pad which I've come to love.

How is carpel related to mouse pad? Is it pad height? (just want to know, because I use Razer Mantis and it feels too thick). My hand usually rests on one side of the pad, it's getting uncomfortable after a while....

Never liked mouse pads because of the height, limited surface area, and the friction. I just use laser mice directly on the table surface. I find that laminate/formica tables suit me the best, because mice with Delrin (polyoxymethylene) feet seem to glide over it fairly easily. I'm currently at home and using a cheap L-shaped desk with thinly "painted" particleboard, and that surface blows because it gets worn off and has a higher friction. My cheap desk at college has a laminate surface and it is very nice.
