Am I the only one who misses MSI's old colours and is sick from all the Gaming-red VGAs?

Here are a few examples I've made with Affinity Photo of what I'm talking about.

Power Edition from the GTX 600 times:

Lightning from the GTX 600 times again:

And the Quick Silver could be brought back as Hawk:

Simply put, red is the most common motherboard accent color. It makes sense to go red, as it will then match more system themes. I get that options are usually better, but from a manufacturing standpoint, I can see why they do it.

I like the red & black color scheme. I like the "Gaming" moniker. I also like Lucky(the dragon). I know everybody else hates all that.

What I like more than the red & black though is the "Camo Squad".

How about cards with most plastic removed and just 2 larger fans on it with a more visible heatsink.

Never cared for the red....I'm patiently waiting for green pcb's to come back in style. My favorite color combination is green with 'solid black' components.

I'm crazy...I know.....:kookoo:.

The shroud is easy to remove. There are four bolts, which you'll need to loosen through the fans. Once these four bolts are loose, unscrew the additional bolts which affix the side lighting to the shroud (It's one LED attached to a plastic plate). Now remove the LED connector at the back of the card, and the entire plastic shroud will be able to be gently pried off by gently edging the shroud mounts through the fan blades.

The internal LEDs are standard sizes, with built in resistors. They are attached with a dollop of glue, and a liberal application of adhesive tape to cover them.

Use a heat gun to remove the adhesive, pry each LED out, and replace with the color of your choice. Alternatively, simply disconnect the power wire to bring the light pollution down to a minimum.

The plastic shroud is oversized for these cards. To fit my 1070 into a case I had to jettison the shroud, shave off about half an inch, repaint it, and reinstall. At that point I disconnected those miserable LEDs. Haven't looked back. I agree fully that other colors would be preferred. Heck, Newegg even advertises some of their motherboards (the AM4 Carbon comes to mind) with blue lighting but the default is that red.

Then change the color of those as well. This black-red combo is getting more and more uninispired and boring imho.

Well I am a huge fan of red and black but it is getting rather old. Too many motherboards, GPUS's, etc are going with that color scheme and it has gotten a bit boring which is why I think RGB is becoming very useful in my book. I wish manufacturers (Just my opinion) would just do a solid black or white with lots of RGB to allow users to choose the remaining colors for themselves.

Even red is getting to be too much for me.

Proud owner of a fairly generic black motherboard. :p

edit: Actually, I would take a Teal (preferably lit up). I don't see that much.

This is where the earlier mentioned RGB motherboards come in. Typically they are muted in color across the board, and you can illuminate them any color you wish ;)

I've had enough of the super flashy GPUs that you see so often nowadays. I like understated, clean designs. IMO the reference gtx9xxx were super beautiful. Palit made some sexy cards too. iirc, the last "flashy" gpu i thought looked decent was the vortex, it seems like manufacturers are mimicking vehicle designs imo. One thing i have always wondered though......when will they do more with the side of the Card we Actually see 90% of the time ;)

You have a point. I never thought of RGB as a good way to just get a good solid color scheme going. edit: If that sounds ignorant, it is! I'm really not familiar with parts like this.

Just paint the shroud.

The current design maybe great but to see every card use it gets boring. I remember the cards before that and they were interesting

 That thing looks like it's gonna blast off any second

Going to jump into the conversation here. I agree with a lot of you and am getting kinda tired with the black and red color scheme seen on many components nowdays. When I got back into reading up on components again recently, I discovered the whole RGB lighting thing and at first I didn't like it, but now it's grown on me. While I think red and blue themed builds are still the most popular, it's great that builders have so many color options now. The RGB craze -love it or hate it - is providing people that extra ingredient to truly make a build unique to them.

That being said, I still think it's possible to make a build/component look overdone when it comes to RGB lighting. I'm lookin' at you Gigabyte X399 AORUS GAMING 7 ;)
