That's what I thought to. As I just said in my edit, newegg only cut the q6600 not anything else...

Reasons are because the egg wants to get rid of them cause they HAVE TO sell them for less in a few days. They are clever.

Don't jump on it yet. I bought my 6000+ a couple days before the AMD price cuts, because I saw it went down to $195, and I wasn't aware of the price cut announcement. The day of the official price cut, it went down another $25.

According to the guys at EVGA that is the price cutt the price off 266.00 is by the thousands to the retailer , but I'm gonna wait and see. They seem to think retail will be around 299.00. they told me this threre days ago when I asked about my motherboard supporting a quad core overclocking. My board like many others does support it but will only oc it to 3.0. and even the board designed to overclock the q6600 will hit around 3.3ghz. I'm on the fence I might get a e6850 or even a e6750 instead.

Then how does HeavyH2O manage 4Ghz on his quad? What board and cpu does he have?

Only some boards can manage to get a q6600 over 3.3ghz the average is around 3.0ghz. Unless you have a board that is designed to overclock a quad core most support a quad core but are only designed to overclock a dual core to higher frontside bus speeds. The q6700 will hit 3.7ghz in my board but thats beacuse it has a higher mulitplier and doesn't need a 400+ fsb. My board a TR 680 is optimized to oc the dual core and support a quad core. The boards that support high fronside buses on dual core chips might not support high frontside buses on quad cores. The boards that do support extreme quad core speeds and FSB are slightly phisically different. The version that would go way over 400 fsb from Evga is the A1 680 version of my board, and since my board was the original 680 nivida design, as are many Asus, DFI etc... they are going to have mixed results with a quad. The two boards, I used as an example, to the naked eye look exactly the same. Evga realized this problem and re issued A1 boards then released the orginal A1/ AR board as optimized for overclocking a dual core calling them a TR , but many companies didn't they simply write in the tech specs that the board supports a quad core but don't tell you it doesn't overclock aswell as a dual core chip would in the same board. People are going to be pissed when they find this out.

Older chipsets have problems OCing quads but Bearlake P35 is a whole another world.
No more FSB walls...

Correct as are the newer 680 board or should I say the redesigned 680 boards. The trouble is most companies are not being honest on this topic.

Over here, the price dropped to ÂŁ127.99. Meaning we get it slightly cheaper.

Yes certain boards can only overclock a quad core to a certain fsb. However, even if you have a board that's not limited in that respect, you have to remember quad core's throw off alot of heat. If you have a properly build board heat's going to be your main enemy (air cooling), not the board.
