AM4 Boards and RAM

Hi.

If you're building an AM4 system where gaming will be the most demanding use will it make sense to go 32gb of RAM instead of 16gb?
And in case of going 32gb is there a difference between 2x16 and 8x4? I could never understand if populating all slots on a dual channel board makes a difference or not.

16GB is still plenty for gaming. Windows 7 occupys 2 GB of my Ram, so 14GB is for everything else.
Older arch, it was easier on the cpu IMC to utilize 2 modules vs 4. It's probably a little cheaper to get lower capacity modules by a larger module count, but future expansion would call for completely replacing modules if all slots are occupied already.

AM4 supports 64GB officially.

IMO if you want the best experience on AM4 get some samsung "B" based 2x8 it should be enough for now. Very little issue running the speed you want as well. Some of the cheaper kits won't barely work at 2133. Compatibility has gotten better but it's still not great. 3200 C14 or anything 3600 and up will likely be sammy b

16 Gb is more than enough for gaming
two slots rather than four is the general rule. So 2x8 is preferred over 4x4
Dual channel is board dependent. If you board only supports dual channel it will still just be dual channel even if four slots are occupied by two sets

with 2 slot u can have higher memory frequency that's it. And ryzen likes higher ram frequency.
