Amazon.com will stop shipping to Australia from July 1

Sad days ahead for us Australian's trying to catch a break on the uber expensive hardware here in Australia.

Australian consumers have hit out at Amazon's decision to stop online shoppers from importing products from its overseas e-commerce sites when the new goods and services tax regime comes into effect in July.

From July 1, when the GST will apply to overseas purchases under $1000, Australians shopping on Amazon overseas sites such as amazon.com and amazon.co.uk will be redirected to the Australian site, Amazon.com.au, which offers about 60 million products across 23 categories including books, toys, fashion, beauty, homewares and electronics.

Amazon will no longer ship from its overseas sites to addresses in Australia. Instead, Amazon has established a "global store" option on its Australian site offering more than four million products that were previously only accessible from amazon.com and will collect and remit the 10 per cent GST on these sales.

Yeah I know thats just because of the weak dollar. I can save around $100 on DDR4 RAM from Amazon USA, now I wont be able to save a thing and get ripped off, sad.

the irony here is that the electronic goods you were purchasing on amazon.com/co.uk were made in china/asia which is nearer to you than it is to USA/Europe, then shipped to AU, and that global logistics mess worked out to be cheaper than for you to import it directly or buy it locally. Something are broke.

You guys at least have your own Amazon! Slovenia doesn't have any and I have to entirely rely on Amazon Germany, UK, France, Spain and Italy to buy goods. Where in half of cases (more like 3/4 recently) they don't ship to Slovenia even though we're all in freaking EU. I often wouldn't even mind higher prices because of tax re-adjustments (we kinda have really high taxes) if I could just buy the damn thing. So I often have to resort to eBay in the end because there, they rarely complicate about destination country. I don't even bother with Amazon.com because I'd have to pay extra import charges which are just stupid in my country (anything over 27€ gets taxed at 22% + other import processing expenses) not to mention Amazon.com basically refuses to ship anything to Slovenia. Now, that's what really sucks hard.

Dont worry I already do that with my ex, as she is an American, but you gotta pay double shipping, but still cheaper then buying it directly from AUS.

Amazon.com.au is shit, and the prices are just jacked up so you dont get any savings what so ever, no different then every other online store in AUS. Same goes with Newegg, they started to offer to ship to AUS but they convert the price and ends up to be no different from here, waste of time that was.

At least you have universal healthcare. I had salmonella poisoning 13 years ago, threw up for 4 weeks straight, almost died. Family couldn't afford the medicine. lulz. Murica is #1 bros!

You get what you pay for, dont think its all good over here for medical, trust me it isnt that great at all, ive been sick for 13yrs with no Dr to figure out whats wrong, you even have to tell the Dr what to do over here to get anything eg medicine. We dont have "Dr's" here out in the country we have glorified script writers.

Fair point, but I have found if you have the ability to look around and move around, switch Doctors several times if you have to, you will eventually find someone that cares. It took me about 4 Doctor changes in Indiana before i found someone that cared, and she has helped me a ton.

Because we are Australian and we are all "rich" we was paying the difference between the dollars so at the moment thats around 20%, but the government then put another 10% on that to line there pockets more but since we are all "rich" overseas business still add another 20%+ ontop of that again. Its the same with video games we pay more and we asked the companies why? they said because we can. So its a win win for the Australian government to get richer and the consumer gets screwed over. Amazon didnt want to deal with the 10% tax ontop of all there items that ship to Australia directly so they just now do it like all the others do and the government gets the profits and Amazon doesnt have to deal with that 10% Government tax. We actually need a civil war in this country because the government is that broken.

So we pay around $120 for a cheap 8GB stick of DDR4 Memory compared to $78 from Amazon and the more higher end you go the bigger the difference.

DDR4 16GB kit 3733Mhz $200 USA Amazon, DDR4 16Gb kit 3200MHz $330 from Australia.
