AMD “will consider adding support” for RIS on Vega, but has no plans to right now

they probably did it because vega still competes with the 5700 and 5700XT and if they turn it on people on vega would have even less of a reason to upgrade >.>

Vega is already EOL and stocks have been cleaned. Why would they worry about Vega competing with Navi?

This feels like the Fury support cycle all over again. I saw there were a few in other forums mentioned Vega still cannot be used to decode Netflix 4K content.

as i said, they would want people on vega to upgrade, if they had turned it on, then there would be less of a reason too.
their slides for the 5700 even stated how good an upgrade from a vega navi would be.

because there is still lots of vega in the channel, they are not selling themselves but they are holding off with this and the low end navi to clear out the rest ,so nice to retailers or trying to reduce a payout , won't be long , but I would'nt mind trying this so sort it AMD your being shit.

I do like the latency reduction and other added features though.

So planned obsolescence? As a former FuryX owner i totally get it

It would appear Vega doesn't support PlayReady.

My Radeon VII doesn't even decode youtube (VP9) 0% GPU usage. Polaris does but not any Vega. With H264 plugin it can. Pretty rubbish but not a big deal as the CPU can handle 4K@60 fine all on it's own.

This does a good job summarizing why Polaris has the feature, and Vega doesn't.
PCGamesN said:
The newly supported Polaris graphics cards – the RX 570, RX 580, RX 590, RX 470, and RX 480 – have been around for years, have become the best value gaming GPUs you can buy over the last 12 months. As such they are in a lot more gaming PCs than their expensive Vega brethren. And if you’re AMD, and want to make the most impact with a new feature, you get it into the largest install base you can. And that ain’t Vega.

It’s a great fit for Polaris too, allowing gamers to run at lower resolutions in order to nail higher frame rates, but without losing out in the detail stakes. If you’re gaming on a 1440p monitor, but are struggling at the native resolution, RIS will help negate the blurring effect you can get from switching down to 1080p for performance. Sweet.

This is kinda lousy.....but I on the same note, I seem to remember reading how some of the new, upcoming 3000-series "APUs" will still have Vega-based integrated graphics. If that's the case, then Vega isn't a dead product. Being a driver-enabled feature, enough outcry (at least potentially) could cause them to change their minds.

I wonder how many red fans will once again come to AMD’s rescue claiming “This is fine, just one filter who needs it right”

And what's your CPU doing? cause I can tell you having to use a Q35 express chipset with integrated graphics before Intel HD that you will know if your GPU doesnt transcode video as your CPU will be at nearly full utlisation, and GPU's have dedicated video decoding hardware now so even though it doesn't look like it's doing anything, unless you're seeing 50%+ CPU when usinmg youtube, your Radeon does indeed decode YouTube quite perfectly without you even noticing.

As an owner of 3x VEGA64's (1x PC Red Devil, 2x GB Gaming OC), I feel AMD should be taking care of us as well, after all, if the cheaper RX4xx/RX5xx can handle it, why should the VEGA line be left out? Still, I ain't complainin' none as I'm happy with my cards, though my Red Devil does struggle a bit with newer games (@ 3440x1440).....like Metro Exodus and Gears 5.

Edit - I'll admit, however, that recently, I've been thinking of getting a Zotac RTX2080 Ti Amp Ed used at about 875USD (after conversion), only thing holding me back is the warranty issue that I'd have to verify.

It's all fine and dandy whatever excuse AMD apologists come up with. Limited resources, less employees than even Nvidia whose primary focus is GPU (not CPU & GPU like AMD), smaller driver/software team etc. etc. It's all acceptable.

What's not is AMD belittling its high-end customers. Fury was shit, Vega was less shit but still shit. Only the most hardcore AMD fanboys would've bought these cards and now they're being shat on. Doesn't inspire confidence for their future high end offerings does it?

You run with the OP and you really shouldn't IMHO! Don't worrie, in time you'll see Vega wasn't left out.. I really cant say as I'm under a NDA and cant discuss really anything but believe me don't run with this clown and his BS.

How many Red team fans will come to AMD'S rescue? Let me ask you this, why do you ALWAYS nit pick in AMD threads? Life that bad? anyways....

Only the snowball that Isn't a red team does.. Do us a flavor and stick to the green team mmkay  and stop looking at EVERY FLAW you believe Amd comes up with, and or flaws you perceive comes up with.. Trust me you will eat your words. Now run along and basically drift town.

I'd love to spill the beans to you but to me your not worth loosing my position over..

If you use reshade; it has ris shader for all to use.
Someone ported it since it is open source.

I'm running with the statement AMD gave to PCGamesN tbh. I don't believe for a second that AMD will leave out Vega owners, at least after this piece broke out. I just wish AMD didn't need media gaslight and community backlash to do the right thing.

They don't, if corporations reacted to every "backlash" or user "outcry" the world would be a much better place today. Having said that the OP is right in the sense that AMD needs to do more on the software front & "forced obsolescence" is not a feature.

I think he has a grudge against AMD over his watercooled Fury X but when it suits him, he's all in for AMD considering how many times he mentions building Threadripper systems for DNA sequencing. He comes off as hyper critical of AMD for the most part though.
