Hi guys, i got used card online and put in my PC and it looks like it is broken. Here are the screenshots of the card, can this card be fixed?? I tried reinstalling amd drivers but that did not work, i have the latest 20.7.2 amd software. Is the card damaged or is it something to do with installation? If i just use 590 monitor says no display. Any help would be appreciated!

Are you plugging your old RX 580 in? If so, what happens if you boot with RX 590 only?

Well, I'm assuming that you've been scammed and no way you can return that card, cause if you can you should take that road.

For now just make sure you're connecting the 2x8 power cables, use the ones you powered RX 580 with, we are sure they're intact.

check if the card fans are spinning once you turn on your machine.

If you feel comfortable to take the card apart to get access to the chip, you can plug it without the cooler, put your fingers on the chip then power on your PC, see if the chip is beginning to get warmer, if so turn off your PSU immediately

If the chip is not getting any hot, that may indicates that there's a short somewhere on the PCB and the chip itself is fine, there's a fair chance you can fix it in that case but that's another whole story.

Thanks Sajid for the response, I don't think I can return the card but i did try switching cables, I am gonna try to check if the chip is getting warm right now

You have tried to put your 590 card in both pci expres ports. ???

where your rx 580 works there you should also try to put your rx 590 in.

Okay so I did try your method and the chip is getting hot, so does it mean the chip is corrupt?

Yeah I tried that as well, but same result there is no display in my monitor.

That means power is delivered to the chip, it's more likely that the chip is defective but graphics cards are not that simple, It still could be some failing components on the board.

Heating on the chip with a hot gun is your best chance now, that won't fix it permanently but will resurrect it for some time, one to six months maybe more.

Thanks mate, I will try that option later and see how it goes.

Ok lets not tell people to heatgun there gpus untill we accually know what is wrong Ok?

first thing is first dump the bios with the latest ati flash from dos and compare it to the latest official version for the card

some of these cards used for mining frequently show up on ebay and occasionally they have been flashed to a mining bios that disables all video output or have been incorrectly flashed and are bricked

the gpu info he posted seems to indicate a bios corruption or other problem

did you try it from dos ?

and what is the exact model of the card does it have a bios switch ?

if the bios is badly corrupted you may need to use a hardware programmer to recover the card

The driver managed to detect it as an RX 590 card so it's an RX 590' BIOS and according to gpu-z it's able to auto detect the vram vendor, if it's a wrong BIOS, it should've at least reported a correct memory info.

I'm not sure tbh, but yeah it's still worth a shot to find out and get the original BIOS then flash it via an SPI programmer.

@Abhilash716 take a deep dive into that thread

Picture the white labels on the back of the card, maybe we can grab you the original BIOS.

Oh that's an RX580, the previous owner probably thought that he can unlock it into RX 590, and flashed it with an RX 590 bios!

I suspected that was the case based on the bios string ;)
occasionally I have been known to be right

This bios may work

thankfully that card has a switch on the edge to change over to the backup bios
try that first the switch is located on the edge of the card usually twords the front its a very small switch easy to miss

it likely has dual bios's he just needs to location the micro switch and move it to the other position
don't forget to repaste and reinstall the cooler

the switch should be on the other end on the very edge of the card
if its not there it doesn't have it sadly
in which case you will need to hope atiflash thatcan recover it, you may need to buy a hardware programmer if atiflash is unable to write to the card
