Just like the 7900X3D. The 9900X3D was not sampled to reviewers. To get in front of the negative press. I can tell you that the 9900X3D blows the 7900X3D out of the water in every way. Before you say the 7900X3D was slow remember that it is much faster than a 5900X in every way. AMD have really hit it out of the park with this series of chips. I never thought City Skylines 2 would play as smooth as it does at 4K. That 5.5 Ghz across all cores makes a difference in that Game.City Skylines 2 is probably the best Game to measure CPU performance as it tracks every single asset.

My 9900X rocks my 5900X in every single possible way. AM4 is slow.. no matter what you run with it.

There is a review out there it looks fine it just doesn't change anything people who only game are better off with the 9800X3D and people who need the cores are better off with the 9950X3D. Doesn't make it a bad cpu it's just priced poorly currently but in 6 months will likely be a good option.

I mean 5.5 Ghz across 12 cores. The only AM4 chip that could do 5Ghz was the 5950X. We have to admit that chip is fast though but the 9000 chips are insane in performance.

Nah.. my 5900X does 5150. 5950X should do 5250. My 9900X does 5850 effective clocks.. good luck seeing 5GHz in the average effective box on 5900X and 5950X

But what happens in games that use cores only from one ccd?

I will try Total War Rome 2 later. I am sure that Game uses 1 core for the Game engine.

So just a quick update. I had to reinstall Windows as some programs were confused with the new CPU. Thanks Win 11 telemetry. Once we reset Windows, I went and started reinstalling programs. That is where these chips shine. I have AMS2 (Auto Mobillistia 2) and that Game fully supports Mods. There is a mod called AMS2CM (Content Manager). That program handles adding the mods to your Game. I mean Cars, tracks and Series. All told it is about 30 GB of data. What struck me was when I was applying the mods I went into Task Manager and every single core was boosting to the exact same level and HW Info reported 119 W power draw from the CPU. The chip actually runs cooler than the 7900X3D and provides way more day to day performance. It is like the chip likes to power through any task you give it.

I tired Total War Rome 2. I will post the numbers. The truth is that is an older Game and as a result the 5.5 Ghz clock speed means that it is not as fast (by 7 FPS average) as the 7900X3D. That Game does not use the Vcache CCD so the 200mhz bump translates. Where it truly shines is City Skylines 2. That should be the only Game that tests CPUs. With the 7900X3D I had to turn FSR on to enjoy it. Now I just play it native and 85% CPU usage is smooth as butter.

Where this also is great is IPC. Everything loads faster. The 9950X3D will be lauded but this has the same 140MB Cache. Cores are great but you need Cache to make a multi core CPU shine.

BTW my Specs ( I have to fill out)

What happens if you give it more power and activate boost override? Will it do 5900MHz?

Have not tried that yet lol. I hope I can get that high. I mean 5.3 GHz is about the average clock

Well, I have always had a thing for hardware that the masses don't like. I don't know why that is.. maybe its a Gen X don't tell me what to do type thing reaction.. I don't know.

A petulance for disappointment maybe? Nah that cant be it.

I bought a 5600X and thought it was great. I bought a 5900X and thought it was awesome. I bought a 9900X and this thing is a beast.. but the point is, It was suggested that I do not buy them.

Same with my 4070Ti aka 4080 12GB

I think I might get a 9900X3D instead of the 9950X3D.. I think the R9 series are the most fun to play with.

Finally people start to admit AM4 is slow. It partly annoyed me those 5800x3d fanboys.

The i/o is much better on am5. My 7600x is similar as fast as the 5800x.

Some games need a lot of cores. I still think not everything is multi core capable programmed.

I always thought the 58X3D was slow. It was only ok in certain games. And for everything else it is pretty slow. I don't 1080p so don't kill me please.

As soon as I moved to AM5 I saw just how slow AM4 is.

Edit:

I ran the piss out of my 5900X, I did see boosts of 5150, and I did see it use a little more than 260w with PBO. And I also know it can take 300w for a little bit before it reboots because of overheat. about 112c I think.. it happened so fast lol. Good thing I did it more than twice.

is slow, as in right now. Still decent chips to start off with (5600, 5500), but you could also go with Intel as AM4 is progressing to be a platform you shouldn't get unless you already have AM4, and / or can get a 5800X3D / 5700X3D. Otherwise, Intel options at a similar price point have benefits over AM4.

5800X3D definitely earned its reputation though, even if Id argue the 7800X3D and 9800X3D are much more accomplished chips.

The 5700X3D / 5800X3D is basically a purely gaming chip at this point and is pretty slugish in non gaming scenarios, and in gaming scenarios where the v-cache doesnt necessarily matter. It gets the job done though.

Only reason I even have AM4 w/ a 5800X is because I got a really good deal on the mobo and CPU, and its just where I need it. I'll probably roll this thing out like I did my i5-8400 till I upgrade to a new platform, which will probably be a new intel chip considering I like the direction Intel is going ever since the core ultras dropped.

58X3D started all of this madness. Hail to the king. It hung with 12niners in game at a time when nothing else could.

I had a MSI b550 gaming edge wifi / 2x32Gib DRAM one of the fastest one / 5800X

5800x3d was not worth it for 330€ - later 300€ in 2023.
I bought 7600X + ASUS Prime x670p Mainboard + star wars jedi survivor + 2 mousepads for 400€. I sold all the am4 stuff - msi had certain wifi issues with the intel wlan soldered chip.

You never know when a mainboard dies after the two year consumer warranty in europe. Fresh warranty and new platform with same performance and much better i/o. Especially on the M2 NVME section. PCIE 3.0 NVME is not to my liking

Yea, not worth that price by that year? I still don't see how that makes the chip overall bad though, if thats what your trying to say.
