I made a mistake purchasing my third hd 7950, I should have waited but my buying impulse took over. If what they say is true about 9970 that it will be faster than gtx 780. Should I stick with 3-7950 or sell them and buy 9970?

three 7950 in tri-fire should be faster than a single 9970. If you only had crossfired 7950, it might be different.

Thank you, I still want to experience 9970. My Corsair 350D htpc need an upgrade, I could do it on that setup. I have about a month to save for it :)

even two should be faster than a "9970", if it's still on 28nm.

no one knows yet until they are actually there are some benchmarks .

But its always like that. Of course AMD wants to release a counter part to green team which will be "faster"... competition is good for us people ^_^

if the HD9970 comes out as what was predicted then even two HD7950 should still be faster.

You can't buy a 9970, so no. Might as well wait until they release. Or try out that 3rd card first anyways. You'll probably have a better experience with just two cards.

so nobody's finding a problem with trifire?

(dual is alright, some problems & game profiles, no big deal, but tri is.... at least it's not quad)

I owned 3 7970's for a while to mine Bitcoin but I occasionally used them for games (I recently sold one because it is no longer profitable and I can't justify the investment of keeping 3 for games). Aside from the obvious challenge of the additional heat, the three card setup never had any more problems than my previous and current two card setup. My experience is that the driver issues are present as long as you have more than one card; whether it's two, three, or four doesn't seem to make a difference. When I had problems with driver bugs, frequently the best way to fix them was to completely disable CrossfireX; using two cards instead of three didn't fix anything. The only problem with three cards instead of two was that some older games (Mirror's Edge was one I encountered) do not have CrossfireX profiles that utilize more than two cards, but these older games ran fast enough that the performance of the third card wasn't needed anyway.

No problem with heat (water cooled), and never had an issue with the driver. Its been smooth for me even with crossfire. I wanted to buy the third 7950 to make use of my 1200 watt psu and the 3 pci lanes, also, I want to check out how it perform on eyefinity setup.

Have fun with your 3 cards and when 9970 gets released, you can then sell your 7950's and buy one or two 9970s.

BTW, when will AMD release their 9xxx series?
