er the ryzen 3500x 6c/6t 32mb cache is a bit lower than the 2600 in term of overall performance , and both oced the 2600 beat the 3500x easily. Pricing the 2600 is 110$, 3500x 140$ base on taobao , while this 3100 is 99$ and 3300 is 120$ ? i would pick the the 2600 oc it to 4.2 or 4.3 , so far it's hard for ryzen 3000 to reach 4.5 and ryzen 4000 would just add 100 to 200mhz more .
Terrible pricing to be honest the 3100 should be 80$ and 3300 100$ would be more reasonable , i have both the 3500x from taobao and the 2600/2600x . Gladly i sold the 3500x

B550 is basically the same thing, as intel does with unnecessary socket change. 1151v1 motherboards work well with Coffee Lake if you mod them a bit. And B550 is just a B450 that is allowed to use CPU`s PCI-E 4.0 lanes. I`m running the first bios that supports Zen 2 CPUs and my MSI B450i Gaming Plus AC actually works with Gen 4 enabled. My 5700XT uses it according to radeon settings. One russian youtuber tested Gen 4 SSD on this thing and it worked! I guess I won`t update the bios in the future

You seem to be talking about the OEM B550A, which is indeed B450/X470 silicon with CPU PCIe lanes enabled at 4.0 speeds. Proper B550 (not A) should be entirely new silicon with new capabilities.

It's an older product on a node AMD will be leaving sooner or later. Ryzen 3100 will be available long after 2600 are EOL.
oc it to 4.2 or 4.3
Not everyone overclocks, especially in the target group for these entry-level CPUs.

You may not like them, they may not be for you. But they complete AMD's lineup for this generation. If Intel i3s sell well, these will too.

You can buy Ryzen 7 2700X for around €185 in Europe. Much better than the cut quad cores.

Not quite. B450 and X470 can, in theory, allow for PCIe 4.0 on the lanes from the CPU. However, when those boards were made, they were made to meet the PCIe 3.0 spec. As such, very few boards passed the signal integrity tests for PCIe 4.0 signals to the x16 slot and the first M.2 slot. This is why AMD decided that it wasn't a good idea to allow PCIe 4.0 on those platforms, as if it didn't work on all boards, then they'd get a lot of angry complaints from consumers. On top of that, all the boards would also have to be certified for PCIe 4.0, which it's possible that some board makers weren't willing to do. You're clearly not an engineer, so your input here is quite moot.

Where is your proof that B550 is identical to the B450 chipset? This is pure speculation on your side. B550A is the same as the B450 as far as we're aware, but B550 is a new product.

You'd also be mad not to upgrade the UEFI for that reason, as later releases have a lot of important fixes and performance improvements that matter a lot more than PCIe 4.0 right now. But hey, it's your system...

That's as expected - if the chipset had PCIe 4.0 outputs, what would be different from X570? But did they say whether the chipset uplink is 3.0 or 4.0? Or whether the chipset outputs a reasonable amount of 3.0 lanes? If it's still 2.0, that would be very disappointing.
This is what I'm also waiting to find out.

I find 2700x to be bad value imho, you're much better off with a 3600 at the same price, it's just as fast multithreaded, a lot more efficient.

the 1600 af (95€) and 2600 (115€) is hilariously cheap and well.. 185€ is way above that point.. this 3300x chip kinda give the 2600 a run for the money imho.

I can only hope intel readjusts their comedy refreshlake pricing to compete.

6 cores will be a bottleneck because of the limited width/throughput sooner than an 8-core.

I'm definitely going to build my niece a Minecraft and N64/GameCube /Wii&WiiU emulator machine with a 3300x, a B550 board, a 570 4GB...ive already got an extra bequiet straight power 11 750W PSU and an extra HP EX950 512GB, so I'll definitely be able to do this for around $400-$500...itll be a nice little machine

Well i was surprised when they only released ryzen 5 3600 as the lowest option and no ryzen 3. But i guess it makes sense financially it was on sale for 200 at beginning milking it first. Anway these cpu's and board is great for 1080p gaming pair it with rx 5500 xt and you have a cheap 1080p gaming monster.question is the software and bios side of things, which always has been AMD's weakest side. Therr should not be a problem but with AMD on this issue no one can be sure.

120 for cpu, lets say another 120 for b550. I dont know about 570 prices but rx 5500xt which is probably faster and consumes less power is around 170 for 4gb version. That is around 400. Throw in a standard 16 gb memory another 70. For 500 you can get a real good 1080p gaming machine. For games like Wow and etc. It will not let you down for years.

When zen was released for some reason it didn't perform too well with some emulators. I suppose that has been patched up, but look it up just in case.

Great! Always nice to have more options to choose from. B550 is gonna be a worthy upgrade. Can't wait to see MB showcase from major manufacturers.

Reminds me of all the people building dual core G3258 builds back in 2014 for a budget 1080P gaming rig and how they ended up being a waste of money. 1600AF is $85. No reason to buy a quad core. These days, hexacore is the minimum you should consider for games going forward.

This reads like a poorly written press release out of Asia.
So does the CPU have 20% of the gaming performance of the competition, or 20% better gaming performance than the competition?
Seriously AMD, this is rookie stuff...

And we still don't know exactly how the B550 will support PCIe 4.0...
Very informative press release...

@Lionheart your wish was granted today... That also means you won't win on the lottery for at least a decade...

You sound so angry. Curse that rap music! This is what that devil music is doing to our kids!

A lot of whining going on because of some budget CPU's being launched, I mean what's the point. There will ALWAYS be budget CPU alternatives. :banghead:

Also, how can anyone expect PCIe 5 less than a year after the introduction of PCIe 4?

The 3600 is a 12 thread cpu. 6 cores granted. But this little cpu is here to stay for the long haul and anyone saying otherwise has not been paying attention or was not even alive when the core2 quad Q6600 was released in 2007. I still have mine bought it from Newegg the day it was released.

Tru dat, but still I would have rather seen AMD apply thier talents to something more progressive and exciting, like pcie 5/DDR5.....:)

More than likely Zen 5 next year will be providing that.

Just a wee bit disappointed in the 65w envelope on the 3300X, it might've been possible to reach as high as 4.8-5GHz if they were let off the leash a bit (85w maybe?) but as it stands it looks like they will be limited to 4.4 or 4.5, possibly 4.6 if you win the lottery. I get that these are budget chips but we're talking a 20w difference. Still, always nice to have good 4c budget options.

I don't think Zen2 can do 5 on air anyhow, in any iteration and CCX config... could be wrong though

3100 for $100 (US), be a good replacement for a few family members will running old amd 955BE hand-me-downs.

It's too bad there are no (decent) $100 graphics cards anymore.

Really be nice if one could find new RX560/gtx1050 for $100, even if they were only 2GB, more than enough for web surfers.

Having worked as a tech journalist for over a decade and written plenty of press releases on a freelance basis, yes, this irks me, badly.
I agree 100% this is an embarrassment. I'm not a journalist, I have never professionally written anything and this press release in my opinion is an utter fiasco. If I worked at AMD, I would be embarrassed. It's about attention to detail, this is supposed to be a marketing tool. Instead, you know that someone who works in marketing at AMD or who was hired by AMD to do marketing is a TOOL!

Not impressed, zero details other than PCIe 4 is supported in some way shape or form! So, B450 without the artificial restrictions...

For web surfing, you don't need a graphics card. There are very cheap APUs with integrated graphics.
