Hi, I have a problem with my Display Adapter, and I dont know whether it is damaged or lost ifs configuration. It crashed everytime W10 makes the driver update. After rolling back to Microsoft Basic Display Adapter, it works fine. Using GPU-Z, it shows details apparently correct but cannot save a backup copy of the ROM, and using ATIFlash -ai, it shows some details apparently correct but says NO VBIO, and using AtiFlash -s, it says CANNOT READ BIOS. I have download 3 ROM files, with version numbers slightly different, but I am in doubt whether to flash one of them without having a backup copy, if it goes wrong, what will happen to my notebook, will it stop working at all. Thank you for any ideia.

I think HD 6850M has its VGA BIOS integrated with the motherboard BIOS, so there is nothing to flash I think.

Have you tried to manually install older AMD driver versions?

Thank you for the reply. I did flash the motherboard's BIO with an updated ROM and then back to the original ROM. In both cases, the BIO showed the changes but not the VBIO (Radeon 6850M) that remained the same version.

That is why now I am attempting solution directly on the Display Adapter. What I dont understand why it shows NO VBIO, or CANNOT READ BIO, using AtiFlash.

I mean, CANNOT READ ROM, using ATiFlash

This ^^^
the VGA Bios is integrated into the Motherboard bios and as such ATIFlash will not read it
Flashing the motherboard Bios only Flashes the motherboard Part of the Rom not the VGA part.
Using ATIFlash wont work because it cannot find the VGA part of the Bios.

I have the original W7 CDs that came with my notebook, Acer Aspire 5950G, bought in 2011, but when I tried to reinstall the W7 (just to test), the Display presented the problem during installation, which had never occurred before. That is why I suspect that the adapter is either damaged or lost its original Vbio. The funny thing is that it works perfectly with the driver Microsoft Basic Display Adapter that came with W10, and I cannot stop Microsoft updating the driver.

I'll check on this possibility, and hopefully W10 does automatically update the driver as otherwise it will not solve the problem.

Have you reinstalled the chipset drivers from the manufacturers website, as these contain the necessary drivers for graphics etc.

Yes, I downloaded from Acer, all the drivers, including Intel Chipsets for W7_8_10, and they are basically the same as I have in the original CDs I kept. All function well except the driver for the Display which now does function in any of the W7_W8_W10, they all crashed. Only the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter works well with W10 and W8. Thank you for the reply.

You would need a non GCN gpu driver for the MGPU
