AMD Hints at Heterogeneous Multi-Core Processors in the Middle of the Decade
Nov-03-2010

Advanced Micro Devices recently released its conceptual server roadmap for the next several years. Apparently, the company's next-generation server platform will not only support both Bulldozer and Bulldozer NG central processing units (CPUs), but will also "fuse" microprocessors with input/output controllers, essentially killing the market of server core-logic. In addition, in three to four years server chips will feature heterogeneous cores.

The upcoming Bulldozer micro-architecture from AMD will be the base for the company's servers chips for many years. But the company sees its future not only from a CPU micro-architecture perspective, but wants to gradually integrate more and more functionality into its chips. the holy grail of such integration will be heterogeneous multi-core microprocessors that will contain both x86 processing cores as well as high-performance stream-processors akin to those found inside graphics processing units (GPUs)........................

Wow, that is fast. It seems as though AMD is coming out with this information about Bulldozer 2 as it preps up Bulldozer 1 for it's 2011 release date. Can't wait to see Bulldozer in action...

I be happy with a nice 8-core Bulldozer CPU and a nice crossfire setup for new gaming computer.

Anyone have any guesses when the Bulldozer one will come out? I'm thinking around March or so.

This article was written on pure speculation based on a presentation that I gave last March in Germany about the "future of servers."

The voice over from the presentation was "nothing I am about to show you represents actual products or actual plans, it is just a discussion of what *could* happen."

I give it lower probability than the author and I was the guy that gave the presentation.

Oh, yeah, all of the dates were added by the author, they aren't real.

This is like if the PS4 was going to release in five months but then Sony announces the PS5 is in the works. lol

Hopefully Bulldozer is good and hopfully Intel can also bring some good stuff out for some healthy competition.:)

I have no doubt that Intel will respond, i just want some good low prices and some pushes in technology, and this will come from good competition.:)
