So found a link to these on my driver and software thread over on TT (Source last post) and figured I would share them, have seen a couple other just beta posted recently, but this one the best "titled." Not sure what changes exactly are in it, none are provided in the post really, but figured some might benefit from trying them. As mention earlier in a TPU news article, the official 12.7s will not support the 4xxx series and earlier.

Build Info:
DriverVer=06/12/2012, 8.981.2.0000
8.981.2-120612a-140817E-ATI

EDIT: Just saw this article/review on the TPU front page, the drivers I have linked here are newer ones used in the review, so might give a preview of what some users (mostly 7xxx series I think) can expect from the drivers.

It seems to work fine. So far i've mostly played older games on them, NFS Most Wanted and NFS Carbon. From the newer games i've only tried CoD:MW3. They all worked fine using MLAA + 16xAF, all sert to max.

I've seen that issue around for a few driver versions now, surprised its not been fixed by either AMD or Adobe.

This driver isn't so great apparently. Damn video cut scenes are constantly locking up so i have to Alt+F4 from NFS Carbon. Going back to official Cat 12.6 beta.

Loaded these up and was getting a slight flickering/artifacting in Furmark when overclocking. Decided I didn't like that and rolled back to 12.6 beta.

Any driver notes associated with this beta?

I'm wondering whether or not to install or just wait until there are discernible benefits.

No notes that I know of, I think I did a google search to see if AMD had posted anything themselves. W1zz uses either these or the previous 12.7 Betas for his review of the 7970 GHz ed., and the link I posted in the OP reviewing these with 7xxx series CF setups, makes me think they're geared mostly toward those cards.

Just installed these, about to try some games and video.
EDIT: Played a couple hours of Napoleon Total War and im watching some bbc iplayer, no problems so far. I dont notice any improvements, maybe more for crossfire or the newer cards. Firefox hasn't crashed yet due to Flash but i think that is more to do with other updates not the graphics drivers.

These drivers will screw with your overclocks if you're not using a 7970 Ghz edition. Seems to be the new powerboost feature crap getting in the way.

If you have a 5870 I would recommend these over the 9.00 betas. I had endless crashes with BF3 with those, but with these it's fast and smooth. Also it works with Afterburner running which is always nice.

Also - is 900 / 1255 a good overclock for a 5870 on air? I would have hoped for a bit more core...

Actually i never noticed that untill you mentioned it. I get 775 mhz and 1000mhz mem clocks when im in 3D altough I have it set to 850mhz, 1050mhz stock volts so i guess what you say is correct. Although ive had no issues with cutscenes, crashes or glitches.

It's a decent overclock but I'm not sure if I would use these drivers as the new powerboost feature is definitely interfering in some way. I'm using 12.4 whql's again. I didn't like them initially due to occasional flickering while in an internet browser. This issue seems to have been between AMD drivers and a previous version of Flash. Flash was recently updated and I no longer have the flicker. With 12.4's I can also set my overclock where it used to be.

Seems another Beta came out, slightly newer driver version, D3D, OpenCL, and OpenGL are all the same. This fixes a black screen issue with the game QQ Dancer, so doubt it will offer many fixes for anyone else. Info and links as follows. In the post from my source (same as listed in the OP), there is just a Win 7 download link, not sure, but wouldn't be surprised if it supported Vista too.

Build Info:
DriverVer=06/25/2012, 8.981.2.1000

Since AMD ditched monthly WHQL i've decided to use their betas like they were WHQL. I never had any special problems anyway so why not. I'll use just WHQL on my laptop since it's not for hardcore gaming, i just run some games here and there on it...

Interesting, AMD picked up an interesting policy...

http://sites.amd.com/us/game/downloads/Pages/radeon_win7-64.aspx

This page now lists WHQL and BETA driver. What this means is that they'll release BETA versions more often and will be of the same quality as WHQL, just without it. The actual WHQL that will be released less often will be actually WHQL signed.

I kinda understand the AMD now, the whole WHQL signing process was often holding them back or caused driver release to be released way later after the game was released. Now they can release the drivers on the game release date exactly or just 1 day later. I don't think the quality of drivers will change much. I mean, if anything, they'll get even better because they won't be constrained by the quite lenghty WHQL signing process.

I mean, if anything, they'll get even better because they won't be constrained by the quite lenghty WHQL signing process.

I've been using ATI hardware since forever (the last nVidia card I had was a 32mb Geforce MX 2 around 2002) and my take on this is just a huge facepalm as to why it took so long for them to do this.

There was nothing stopping them from releasing Beta drivers on Day 1 for the hottest games except themselves. If their pursuit for WHQL signing at all costs was an internal policy for the satisfaction of bureaucracy, thus costing them negative PR with their technical savvy customers by keeping them waiting for headache-minimized gaming performance, then they have no one to blame but themselves and are reaping what they've sown if people switched to nVidia.

Only with BF3 did I actually see a concerted effort to make top performance availability to their customers a priority over rigid WHQL lockstepping, and imho that's long overdue for such a 'groundbreaking' concept. When you don't respect those of your customers who are smarter and paying more attention to you, you're asking for trouble and the resulting screams for change were there for those AMD staff with the ears to hear them. Even before the launch of Geforce.com, finding Beta nVidia drivers was never a problem as they were always front and center with the latest WHQL packages, whereas with AMD.com it was always a bit of a hunt.

Their policy change is without a doubt a good move, it's just about bloody time. :shadedshu
