AMD Could Launch New Navi GPUs Soon

AMD's president and CEO Dr. Lisa Su was talking during AMD's Q2 earnings Q&A conference and got asked a very interesting question. When prompted about high end Navi GPUs, Dr. Su answered with "I would say they are coming. You should expect that our execution on those are on track and we have a rich 7 nm portfolio beyond the products that we have already announced in the upcoming quarters."

This answer gives us hope to see more powerful Navi GPUs possibly by the end of the year, meaning that AMD's answer to Turing is almost ready. As we saw earlier in the rumors, we might get additional higher end GPU models in form of alleged RX 5800 and RX 5900, with XT variants available for both of those models. The RX 5800 is supposed to utilize a new GPU core called Navi 12, while the core for RX 5900 is still unknown.

I wish this was less speculation.
Oh it's gonna happen. AMD didn't choose the model numbers "5700" and "5700XT" because it sounded nice. They fully intend to go with 5750, 5800, 5850, 5900 and likely 5950, each with "XT" versions likely. AMD is not done showing more Navi..

There will likely be budget models too, such as 5500, 5600 and 5650.

I agree...I really want an AMD gpu.
This is very exciting TBH.
I want this to be what my bonus is going towards in March, 2020.

My guess is that by then the new iterations will be out. NVidia released the "Super" versions of RTX in anticipation of the upcoming Navi models. This is a very good thing and is good competition!

Thank God I didn't buy 5700XT. I will wait for the upcoming and then decide what will I end up with :) I'd go with the top-notch Navi but that will depend on the price/performance ratio or value maybe compared to NV counterpart of course :)

well maybe cause of the terrible reference cooler and various bugs, but performance wise 5700/xt are really good.

Never seen a reference cooler which is an outstanding piece of equipment :) Bugs happen with new releases. This isn't much of an issue since it will be fixed and it doesn't diminish the performance.
I'm not in a hurry. I can wait for the release since I'm not going anywhere :)

I wonder what the pricing will be on those alleged cards, seeing as the 5700 is €400+. Hopyfully we'll finally see >= GTX970 performance at a €100 budget. But if the budget cards are approaching €200 they can fugget aboot t.

Nvidia has had some excellent reference coolers IIRC, and in AMD's case poor cooling is a habit at this point, which is really annoying, especially if you're looking at used cards.

Excellent is a bit farfetched. Although they are good. How can this be annoying for you when you don't have the card? On the other hand if it is annoying, what used cards and new have to do with it? If the fan is annoying then I guess it matters not if it is a used or new card.

Seems like the AMD strategy is to announce a product, get the competition to show their hand, then announce their counter move shortly after. I’m still in “I’ll believe it when I see it” mode, but it would be consistent with the Zen 2 launch.

The thing is that nvidia is not Intel. Nvidia is watching it with a big malefic laugh and ready to put something instantly on the market. They simply don´t need it at this point. They lead the market on pretty much every segment. They are alone at both the ultra high-end market and the mid range with the gtx 1660/ti. And if AMD comes with something that can rivalize with their 2080 Super or 2080ti, you can be sure nvidia immediatly responds with something to instantly smash them

Sure it matters, because when shopping for used cards a lot of them are not interesting to me because they are too loud. I also don't want to buy a good complete air cooler for €50 nor do I want to go for a cheap cooler and fiddle around with RAM heatsinks and VRM cooling.

Are you saying that used cards are louder than new cards even if it's the exact same kind of a card? Cause it does sounds like it and I can't see any difference aside for the used cards' warranty is shortened.

NV sure does lead, mostly in the pricing department. :) Unfortunately this ain't my box of candy though. :)
Be grateful if AMD comes up with something new to stand against NV's 2080 and TI. New release from NV to "smash AMD" will surely give you more arguments :)

Ok, I get that you need to sensationalize a little for page clicks, but where did this come from?
AMD's answer to Turing is almost ready
AMD's answer to Turing is Navi.
And Ms Su just said there will be quarters before they release something more powerful.

Ermm you might want to put on less rose coloured glasses.
As far as I can recall both have had perfectly fine stock coolers for a long time, with some outliers on both sides.

Reference cards that are more expensive than custom cooled cards?!
FEs are not reference cards, they are more expensive even than many custom cooling cards.
AMD made these coolers just to let the new cards have as competitive price as possible. And Nivida on the other way used the "excellent cooling" just to make their cards as expensive as possible

Well, if AMD´s "just around the corner" is +6 months (like we saw with Vega), "upcoming quarters" probably is close to one year?

So there may be new models in the "upcoming quarters", there will also be a new generation from Nvidia in the "upcoming quarters". If "big navi" arrives close to or after Nvidia's next generation, it will be too little too late.

I also wonder where people got the idea that "big navi" is right around the corner.
