Hello techpowerup! I'm new here and this is my first post!
As the title shows, I need help to make my GPU go over 1.000V. My GPU is a Pitcairn based card with GCN 1.0

I tried software like VBE7 to change my voltage but since my gpu is UEFI it doesn't work, and when I try to boot my GPU without its UEFI vbios, my UEFI only motherboard takes over 1minute to get a signal and nothing changes.

VBE7 only works with non-uefi bios (I read that from a different forum). So I tried various methods like modding MSI afterburner. It did work making me go over the max voltage limit but when applied nothing changes in monitoring software such as GPU-Z. I really want to go past 925mhz core because my GPU still has thermal headroom. I know it's a 75w only card so it might be a hassle to overvolt it.

The last method I haven't tried was modifying the UEFI bios using hex editing but I don't know how to do that, unfortunately, so if you are willing to mod my vbios that would be greatly appreciated!!
Also My voltage controller is a Volterra VT1556M for those who are interested I guess :). I also added some screenshots and vbios!

Here are the specs:

my gpu doesnt support it

Disable the limits with Msi afterburner
I tried doing that but when going past 1.000v nothing changes, I looked at gpu-z sensor and its still stuck at 1.000v

My gpu's voltage controller can be controlled by software but I guess its hard locked... Hmmm

Thats my last option, VBE7 vbios modding doesn't work so Hex editing is the last idea I came up with, because ofc the vbios is uefi only and hex editing probably works for it.

To keep the uefi you have to re-inject it after editing the bios with VBE7.0.0.7b download GOP_Updater_v1.9.6.5.k_mod_v0.5.2 and drag the edited bios to GOPupd.bat hit y to the question to update uefi and it will generate the new bios inside the folder

I googled for info on this and all I found was your FUD about UEFI. The problem is NOTHING TO DO WITH UEFI

Without UEFI and taking a stock BIOS and only changing the Overdrive limits (for example) you can flash a new BIOS to this card but the limits remain the same in Afterburner (even after enabling extended limits). I also experimented with changing voltage, core/mem clocks in BIOS and whilst GPU-Z saw the numbers applications indicate they did not change.

I suspect its as simple as "although VBE7 recognises BIOS and creates a valid tweaked BIOS, the limits etc are hardwired somewhere else in the BIOS"

Which is sad cos memory easily hits the "max" 1040MHz (so will go higher) and it is obvious the core clock is limited by the 990mV voltage (mine also stable at 900MHz, runs 925Mhz but Heaven locks up). Similar Pitcairn cards use 1.15V and core around 1150MHz so IF BIOS could be modded this card could be boosted nicely.

I have some experience because I am selling amd gcn 1.0 gpus and I have to be aware of whether the client has uefi or not, because if there is not uefi many amd models from that time will not start I put the gop update thing because I thought not you could then start the graphics by not turning off your uefi from your motherboard
The graph cannot raise the voltage above 1000 after editing the bios, as I remarked in my other post, the model I have goes into protection if you raise the voltage above 1000 and it stays at a minimum of MHz, the core rises to 1040 unstable and memory safely reaches 1180
I have left it at 1000 the core and 1150 the memories since I barely gain 2 fps with furmark
It is remarkable how little the memories of the w5000 go up all the r5 240-r5 430, r9 350 that I have done oc either by bios mod or by msi afterburner the memories safely reached 1300mhz

Really helpful post from you - thank you! Finally got the info I needed on the VBE7 thread - i.e. cannot go above 1V on FirePro.

I guess I can go from 0.990 to 1.000V for a 1% voltage boost but I cannot see that helping my GPU much (it runs 900 core, 925 not fully stable). Can I ask what GPU-Z said about your ASIC quality? Tells me mine is brilliant (which acc to poster on VBE7 means exact opposite).

Interesting to see you have the W5100 also (which I considered). Seems performance is much same as W5000 but less power, more memory (4Gb) and full DX12 support - so maybe better for gaming. Did you OC that to max (how far?) and did you BIOS mod also (and also was that 1V limited)?

I did some modding on W2100 and W4100, effectively overclocking by +100%, but I recall the stock voltage on those cards was already 1.2v or something and I don't recall being able to change that. Maxwell era Quadros were a different story, truly awesome results.

On W4100 I checked... all 7 BIOS files here on the database are 1050mV.... but clock is a low 630MHz so I'd not be surprised that 1GHz clock (or better) was possible. All the W2100s are 1150mV so I suspect thats the ones you recalled the biggest OC on.... I don't care for that card with GDDR3.. the W4100 is GDDR5 so better performance generally. But even with a 50%+ OC the W4100 will be much slower than W5000. I might get one just for a play though!

I also played with a Maxwell Quadro but since I also like to Hackintosh Nvidia is dead to me

1375MHz on the core of W2100 with 1.275v (hard to see but you can look at my AIDA64 background in my verification screenshot in the lower right hand corner)

1215MHz Core on the W4100 and I'm pretty sure it was same 1.275V on that one:

If I recall all Oland-based GPUs I tested had stock 1.275v by default.

You musta BIOS modded them and they must not have the lock the W5000s have... cos all the TechPowerUp BIOS entries show stock voltages of 1050 W4100 or 1150 W2100

Seriously impressive results

I can't really remember but if I get the time I'll dig one out and scan the BIOS and upload it here. I'm about 80% sure I didn't have the ability to change voltage and they were like the RX version of the Oland cards I tested that had stock 1.275v:

Thanks... well IF you are gonna (and able to) dig one out.. Please dig out the W4100 as I'd rather get one of those and OC the snot out of it :)

Whatever you do, don't bother with the WX (Lexa/Polaris) versions. Those are slightly editable in the BIOS but the driver does some funky thing where it tries to uninstall itself once it realizes the firmware has been tampered.

The best success I had was with Maxwell Quadros. M4000 is like an 8GB GTX 970 but without the ROP and memory bus gimping. Plus they OC like +100%. I still use a pair for folding@home because they are rather efficient despite me pushing them so hard.

My asic quality is 75.2 anyway it will never be worth going up to 1000mhz without overheating since all the oem GCN 1.0 graphics have a too cheap heatsink instead the memories if they have a significant impact on the final result 1450 is the maximum that is I was able to stably put GCN 1.0 on some gpu and I don't understand why the voltage is blocked at 1000 in this particular model since I am reviewing HD 7850 models at 1200mhz with the same factory Hynix memory.
In relation to the w5100 depending on the silicon lottery the core goes up to 1250mhz on average and the memory is safe to put at 1700mhz of course it is better due to dx12 support than the w5000 and architectural improvements what I did not like is the m2000 quadro I thought it would be more powerful than the w5100 but it behaved better thanks to its ability to oc either with msi afterburner or Sapphire TRIXX

hah yeah sorry I forgot all about this. I just had the card in my hand when I was cleaning last week too. I'll plug it in tomorrow and see what GPU-Z says and upload the BIOS here. I have a couple W2100 too, even worse cards.

Bad news. I thought I found the W4100, but it was a W2100. I think I gave away the W4100. Here's the BIOS for the W2100, which is basically the same as the W4100 except even weaker memory configuration:

Also it looks like I didn't run very many benches on the W4100 when I had it but here they are:

Interesting thread, I've clocked W4300, W5000, W5100 and so forth. Maybe a couple WX cards too.

All the ones I got where OEM Dell or HP. We first should be lucky that we don't need OEM drivers to run these cards.....

There is no modding the bios on the cards. The option isn't there to "unlock" during the "mod" and any mod will flush the checksum down the toilet and the driver then nerfs the card. On more modern cards, MPT will also make the driver nerf the card.

2 ways I know of.
Write a new bios and a new driver. (Not open source)
Hard mod with a little trimmer. (The only realistic way to increase vcore)

My W5000 did 952/902 happily all benchmarks DX12 and lower (15% oc)
My W5100 did 1000/1500 only a 700mhz increase. Stock 930/1500

These GPUs I no longer have though.

Anybenchmarks around here?
