Hi guys! I'm having an ASUS M5A78L-M LX3 and a FX 6300 with stock cooler.
So, first of all, with 1.35V I can get 4.2 GHz and while playing CS:GO and USING all cores I get 60-65*C, and while playing a CPU intensive game I get a maximum of 70C. But i have a problem. I set my HT to 2600MHz (maximum allowed by mobo) and my 1600CL10 ram to 1866CL8(-10-10-29), dual channel, and here comes the problem. I can't change the NB freq, nor in bios nor in overdrive. BUT even if I change it, RAM become Single channel. I can change the NB freqs only by changing the Base Clock from 200 to 200+x. So what I could do to increase NB speed, and by how much?
Also, my PC restarts at almost any voltage at 4.3, is this bcs of the 3+1 VRM ? What do you think about this OC score on stock voltage and this low motherboard? Also, what should I increase to get even better GPU OC scores or overall better GPU performance ?

Thanks for everything!

I wouldn't be overclocking on that board in the first place.

Yes your vrms cant keep up on that board, if you want a hard oc get a asus sabertooth 990fx r2.0

You havr other threads relating to this, stop creating multiples, your psu may not be able to keep up or you dont have enough vcore applied

So i can't change NB bcs of VRM ? Doesn't seems logic...

Well.....you should be very careful not because of your CPU going to overheat but because your VRM on that mobo....What is your NB temp when you do some EXTREME benchmark test(prime 95)?

Hmmm never checked, but never had problems on 4.2 at 1.35V ... So you all try to say to don't overclock NB ? NB is at 2000 and HT at 2600, problem ?

Put a heatsink and a fan over the VRMs. Otherwise you wont go very far.

it wont gain you anything in games is more pertinant, yes a bit on benches but no on games, saying that 2200 @ 1.15-1.2V for the NB should be possible but you would also have to up the cpunb volts a bit and all in your Vrms will throttle at best and die at the worst case ,as a start you should get a decent HSF cooler ,that can dissipate heat well and also one that blows on the vrms, you could get one that fits am3+ and am4 for future builds but thats what you need not more mhz ,your cpu will likely be throttling anyway at 70C if in game , my mates 6300 does and its not overclocked ,mines cooled excessively.

Well I remember when I OC my FX on better mobo then yours I usually didn´t have problems with the CPU overheating but the NB/VRM could go really HOT......so I suggest you to run prime 95 for 5-10 min and check all your temps and see for yourself....and as others ppl suggest it´s always good idea to put some fan or heatsink(or both)over the VRM

Hmm than okey, I'll try to find those little vrm hestsinks and use them. As for NB, i saw that alot said something like "NB should be higher than ht otherwise you won't see performance increases".
Oh, and you guys say that i won't get "any" benefits from overclocked nb?
Aaand last thing, could i somehow give a boost for the gpu from the bios? I saw something like pci frequency, is that something good to use (at pci-e)?

On Bulldozer platform OC-NB probably not going to boost yours overall performance however sometimes "smart"NB-OC can help you with overall stability and smoothness....just be cautious do few test at first and see the temps......

You could put a small fan over the VRMs and net some head room. Keep them VRMs under 80C and you'll be fine for 4.4-4.5. I had to add a fan to the back of my board to blow air to help cool the VRMs. Temps dropped from 75-80C to 50-60C depending on ambient temp. I have 2 profiles, day to day-4Ghz, and gaming- 5.2Ghz. (See specs for board info etc..)

hes not got your board mate ,his has 3+1 Vrm and a fan would help but not to the extent yours has, i too cool the back of my socket via fan but 3+1 ?

Leave NB alone,Clock frequency of cpu is more important and that mobo is poor, try 4.0 Ghz on all cores with 1.30v

3+1 VRM is just barely good enough. I've melted a transistor on mine before--not a good day.

Like Flyordie says, maybe you'll be able to reach 4.4-4.5 without adding much vcore, but that would probably require a lot of airflow around your puny VRM area. Totally not worth it for such a small gain.

As far as overclocking things on your motherboard/CPU that affect your GPU, there's really nothing you can do that would be helpful. Other than overclocking the GPU itself. Yeah, you can OC the PCIe frequency, but that's not going to do anything for you. Just try to OC the GPU a bit--depending heavily on the type of GPU you can get some decent gains just by doing that. Nothing in your mobo's BIOS is going to really help your GPU score significantly though.

At this point be content with what you have and then upgrade to Ryzen+ 2000 series. If you have this rig around, sell the friggin board you have for a Sabertooth R 2.0, R3.0, Crosshair 5, AsRock 990FX Extreme 4 or Extreme 6, GA 990FX UD3,/5 1st or 2nd Revision...

Yea, exactly. :) If it was an FX8xx I'd have said.. maybe 4.2 max. That board is bare minimum, just enough to get it to work kind of board.

I could refer you to a post that might be relevent. Post #3 in the review for a Silverstone fan: https://www.techpowerup.com/forums/threads/silverstone-fhp141-fan.241131/

Four cores running on my chip. The bottom 1/8th of my 140mm cpu fan blows over my VRMs, and gets sucked out by a 140mm fan behind it, and a 120 above it. Notice the CPU power usage reported on the bottom-left of the image. Also notice the VR T1 temp graph on the right. And this is only with FOUR cores running for 13 hours on vcore 1.41 on a Gigabyte 990FX-Gaming.
