Personally I think developers have hit the mark fairly well. They need to write their games and apps for the majority of people in their target audience 18-30 months down the line. First it was for HT, then dual-core, now we're at multi-core. Very little was available at the launch of any of these technologies, but as acceptance grew, so did the availability.

How I see it:

HT: Make it for SC, but boost with HT.
DC: Make it for SC/SC-HT, but boost with DC.
MC: Make it for DC, but boost with QC, maybe even OC.
Future: Simply tune MC games for better QC and OC performance.

Supreme Commander, Unreal 3 (ETA: Soon) and Hellgate:London (ETA: Oct 31) are MC type games. The latter two of course aren't available yet, but from what I've read about them, you'll lose performance and/or prettiness, features, on an SC, and thus fitting my MC definition. (and they've been shown on 8-core systems, :rockout:)
