Probably tying in to all the stuff they're doing for the upcoming series of consoles.

I mean, just look at all the particles in the PS4 demos, so PhysX is obsolete, they can probably do something for hair as well, which would be a nice change for artists to be able to have characters with more natural free long hair.

If you go to the amd page about it here, i says, "TRESSFX: A NEW FRONTIER OF REALISM IN PC GAMING." The girl in the picture looks rendered so I am going to guess amd's response to physx...? That or amd is branching out into other goods. At least it is not a long wait to find out..

It seems to be a physics simulation thing. If it is, who gives a shite. Give us standardized physics library that anyone can use and accelerate through GPU. So we can finally see some games with physics at their gameplay level and not some stupid gimmick thats only meant to watch some stupid junk flying around. They can't make up their mind with PhysiX and it will only get worse if two different engines will be available and never both in the same game (which sounds like a 150% possibility).

Luckily the gimmick isn't overly important to the games it is used in. Everyone gets to enjoy UE4 that way.

This is the tit for tat we'll see now with Nvidia and AMD helping develop games and engines. Good or bad? Depends on what games you play.

Physx certainly isn't obsolete (given by definition it is still being coded and updated) but it is underwhelming.
