Pascal takes a beating from DXR but at least Nvidia gives their customers the option, we can only assume AMD will be adding DXR/Vulkan support soon.

I suspect they are like the Labour party in the UK, it's easy to criticize when they haven't really stood up to be counted.

Navi with Gen 1 RDNA yeah. GCN is probably gonna get left behind this time when AMD enables Ray Tracing on Radeon cards, which is actually a good thing. That sucker has been on life support for far too long.

As for when, I suspect it may be along the launch of the rumored big Navi next year

It's pretty good with one...

It is interesting though. Nvidia is going after the framerates with DLSS (downsampling) and blurring and AMD is going for sharpening and IQ.

That's always been the case, yeah? Even when ATI was on their own, they weren't in favor of cutting corners for higher frame rates.

Do you guys remember 3Dfx times? Maybe the history will repeat and we will have a dedicated RT accelerator? That would be something Maybe it is the way to go for now. When the Graphics cards have more juice in them and be able to handle RT this RT accelerator will die just like 3Dfx did.

PhsyX proved that won't be economically viable. The only market big enough for a dedicated raytracing accelerator is professional rendering...but they don't do real time rendering. So there's literally no market for it big enough to sustain the R&D costs.

I'll be honest: The RTRT in Quake 2 is impressive. I stood in places just to admire the reflections and try to trick the engine. But no, the light sources were accurate, everything was real time. Also, for the haters among us, it's a demo of the future of ray traced effects. No matter how it's done (API) it is a far better rendering system. It's not an effect, like Physx, it's a whole different entity. But, as I mentioned, the resources for it to work are immense. I read an article about it (Quake 2 RTX) and it said it is entirely RTRT. I think it is, based on my experience. Imagine though, a 1999 game needing 4+GB of Vram to run it. It would take a ridiculous amount for a modern title, with high Res textures.

Don't hate it, embrace it. But regardless, we're all going to have to wait a lot longer for it.

I think AMD is prioritizing reflective surfaces in DXR (something approximation rendering completely sucks at). Some time next year, they're probably going to debut it (ahead of Scarlett and PS5 launch).

True, only a few people will be able to use the RTX On option because they paid the "RTX Tax". The vast majority will just turn RTX off.

Even the majority of ppl with RTX cards will turn it off simply because of the performance hit.

Not everyone if anyone can afford a RTX 2080Ti to enjoy "playable" frame rates with RTX on, so for most people this is a big meh! A RTX 2080 TI cost more then my entire PC lol

SONY is in its own league of pushing the envelope of new consumer tech, in a good way.

While everyone (mainly old timer “monitor” only pc users) claimed VR is dead, SONY sold 4.2million PSVR and successfully pushed the VR industry forward. I have little doubt that SONY’s capability in pushing RTRT into mainstream console. And hey, maybe when consoles have good RTRT or VR it will convince those old timer pc users to be more open to new technology.

There is more in life than a bit of innovation and commerce. Not sure what this really is supposed to say, but to me it reads you should get out more.

The market completely opposes an expensive push for RT with dedicated hardware. Its not all that different from VR really, in that sense. The trend is the exact opposite: cost needs to go down and people generally feel gaming is becoming too costly. That also has to do with content, that is now carefully measured and chopped up to maximize profit and diminish replay value.

Look at this topic and the semtiment. The only reason PSVR sold like it did is because of low price / barrier of entry. But now that quality move upwards... that willnot be as cheap because we all know progress on GPU is largely stagnant while demands go up.

No, I am very good at separating fantasy from reality. Anti vaxxers... wow man. How low can you go and how do you even relate the two... You can dream of your VR future, all I do is point out the facts we have seen so far and put them in perspective.

It's good these games will use RTX but for me I'd rather go for a card that can play 4k60hz and I'm good. RTX is cool but the performance isn't and to play it you will need to spend a lot of cash. it is good it is there but I think it is still too early for the RTX to be a mainstream thing for a reasonable price.

What are you even talking about? RTX cards are the fastest cards out now.

Look, Ray-Tracing is the next big thing just like when Texture & Lighting was developed in the first Geforce era. AMD Navi was unprepared but their next video card will have ray tracing processing offloading. SO for now they are trying to sell the value of Navi.
