AMD "Navi 31" Radeon RX 7900 XTX and XT Unboxing

Looking at raw specs, it's 83% of the XTX for 90% of the money, so on paper it's already losing in a value contest to a flagship which is supposed to be the worst-value model with the highest premium and highest profit margin.

Unless the XTX is horribly bottlenecked in benchmarks and barely faster than the XT, I forsee a drop in price of the 7900XT to $799 before the year is out.
I would bet on a price increase on both, because of great performance/$ and limited supply.

Reports suggest it won't actually be possible to buy one pretty much, till next year anyway.

This is absolute idiotism by AMD. Did they allocate mere 10 wafers for the launch? WTH?

I love this design and the power specs. I think we will have a new SFF king here.

... I keep getting shit for having a CPU that’s faster than 80% of our readers, I've started to retest just the important comparison cards on 13900K with the existing games. Should be able to barely make it if I sleep the absolute minimum ...

Instead of comparing all 40/50 titles, why not focus on the (let's say) 10 titles which do see a difference from faster CPU @ 4K? Those 10 can be chosen based on the 13900K v/s 5800X with 4090 tests you have already done.

Show the results in separate review page. You can describe the methodology of selecting those 10 titles and then show the data you able to collect without sacrificing sleep.

Man, I really wish AMD and Nvidia would a create a ECO mode (like Ryzen 7000 series) that focuses on efficiency.

For the 6700XT for example, have a (lower voltage) + (slightly lower clock speed) software switch that persists between restarts.

Those who want maximum performance can have want they want and those want their cards to be efficient can have they want.

The rig isn’tready yet, and i haven’t had found time to retest all my cards with new games etc.

But because I keep getting shit for having a CPU that’s faster than 80% of our readers, I've started to retest just the important comparison cards (maybe 8) on 13900K with the existing games. Should be able to barely make it if I sleep the absolute minimum .. Takes about 5 hours per card, you do the math.

Edit: and I have the two main reviews to write

I used to report the measurements, but it's not worth it for the time and effort spent. Just buy a bunch of them and see what fits. Placement will be visible from my photos

Wasn't that system based off votes for it?

Personally, I wish that AMD kept using the R encased in a cube, like they did on Vega's cards.

Like this:

Me too!

Yeah but just votes doesn't materialize a machine here with OS installed, games installed and configured, test scenes found, ready to go :)

Yes it make sense having a 13900K with a 6700XT dont make sense

Think if you can do it for 3080 ti and 6800 XT and up it will be good for many. Hope you will have a 6950 XT that time

This is the opposite of what they actually do. Take as small dies as possible and run them at uber high voltages, so to extract the very last 2% performance and charge 300$ more...

Well be a combination with aib partners with a dual bios option that would be ideal.

Completely new here, really contemplating XT or XTX
Currently running a overclocked 8600k at 5ghz with a 1080..
You guys think this cpu would bottleneck the XT ?

And what about a I9 9900k would it bottleneck a XT or XTX you guys think ?

not tempted to upgrade the whole system yet, Just up to a used 9900k so i dont have to replace the MB yet.
Thanks

The 8600K will bottleneck but the 9900K if overclocked will be a good match for 2160p gaming.

What a beautiful card.
I hope the XTX meets the 4090 and beats it in some things.
I own a 4080 but nvidia needs to be beat.. by a cheaper card, that'd be good for them!

Perhaps stock levels are low because rumours around the need for another tape-out to fix clock speeds are true?

Maybe irrelevant, but IMO the 9900K might be the best non-HEDT SKU Intel made in the last decade. You'll be fine with it.
Might as well look into AMD ZEN4 or better Zen 4 3D.
Omitted this:

Welcpme to the internet! :)
I guess it's OK to behave immature when new GPUs and CPUs are announced.

That's The Exact opposite of what they're doing.

They make the die size they minimally Have to to hit execution, and performance targets, or adapt complex 2.5/3d solutions, to run Ever lower voltages, across Ever larger amounts of transistors, with vastly higher currents.

To make dots you can't see swap quicker:D.

Nice-looking beasts! Let's hope the performance and availability will be there too. :)

I wonder what the intake air temperature sensor is doing on the XTX. Is it just another sensor, or does it control fan speed, or...?

I'll bet 7900XT lays the smack down on 4070 Ti, but we will know very shortly. 4070 Ti is slower than 3090 Ti in pure raster and relies on DLSS to make it look good. 7900XT will easily beat 3090Ti in raster.
