There are some disturbing things that we already know and that are outside of the reviews.
The enormous sizes and the scalper price tags.

If you are not worried, that's also a new problem.

I don't accept these and don't agree with the offers.

I'll await reviews and leave you to hyper Neg while I sit in work till 7pm I'll be looking for your criticism of the 4080/90 :)

FYI. I never work with nvidia and its gibberish.
Accepted, I checked, though you are even more neg on AMD, but accept my apologies you are not a biased shill I see similar big card big price comments on Nvidia's latest.

You are super neg though shit, reviews will clear it up.

As someone who’s never owned a Radeon card, I’m extremely interested in this generation. If company slides are true it could be a very worthy successor to my 3080. Can’t wait for reviews!

I think you can still use your 3080. The only issue is its VRAM amount which could or will cause problems in some games.
Of course, double the VRAM to 20 GB is a good upgrade, but maybe you can save your cash (depends on how much you could get from selling it as used) and efforts and postpone to a later date.

Amazing to me that partners have 3.5 slot design 7900 XTX cards when you compare to the reference design.

It’s either a lot of wasted heat transfer or AMD is allowing partners a lot of headroom with the chip.

Thanks for this W1z. Can’t wait for the reviews.

I would be more than happy with the XTX if I’m seeing 5-10 less FPS on average versus 4090 reference in 4K rasterization. You’re talking $600 savings for negligible performance/watt due to the 4090 power draw.

A lot of wasted aluminium and introducing difficulties to fit in some PC cases.
These should have been designed as "nano" type of cards with short PCBs and water coolers with one 120 mm fan (that can be installed as rear case exhaust) from the get go.

I don't know what to think anymore. Maybe it's a good idea to scrap the idea about purchasing 7900 and instead go with something much more normal like 7700 or 7800.

It depends on what you’re upgrading from. I have a 6950 XT, which I may wait for the 7950 XT depending on the reviews.

If you have a something like a 6700XT/6800XT you’re talking similar size in reference model versus the 7900 XTX, however you would see huge performance boost as long as your CPU is fairly current gen.

I would argue most people buying top end cards probably have a full tax cases or at least wide mid atx cases. It seems like most mobo manufacturers are going the way of 2 slots in favor of unlimited usb ports and large amount of nvme slots. You wouldn’t want to occupy the second slot anyway and drop down to x8.

I don't understand - is there any problem/issue with water coolers and why are they ignored like the plague?
The reference cards because of the extreme heat and high TDP should have been designed with water.

Did they mention DSC support over DP? I'm worried they could have dropped DSC support due to DP 2.1 54Gbps implementation (which old 4k120+hz and 1440p240+hz cannot take advantage of).
What a bizarre question. Why would AMD opt to drop one of the primary features of the DP spec, that is also required to be able to be DP 2.1 certified?

But because I keep getting shit for having a CPU that’s faster than 80% of our readers
I don't understand why you haven't just told those people to eat shit and find another site to visit for reviews if they have such a problem with you using such a "slow" CPU. Why not add a new forum rule:
  • Anyone who uses the comments of a GPU review to complain about the CPU used for testing, will immediately receive a one-week suspension. No exceptions.

Your first paragraph is totally shire horse tackle, they're not made in the last three months and in fact have been developed over 3/5 years and have been a settled design over a year now.
And this is relevant how exactly? Could have been developed 10 years ago for all I care, does not mean that the name can't be changed in a day.

Nvidia announced and manufactured 4080 12GB cards and then decided to just rename them as 4070Ti and the world did not end because of it.

So we've learned the XTX will make a slightly better door stop if you don't' want to game with it. Look forward to the Benchmarks.

Reports suggest it won't actually be possible to buy one pretty much, till next year anyway.

Because we need to find excuses for Nvidia's fiasco with the RTX 4080 12GB.
No, it's because, according to AMD themselves, the memory bus depends on VRAM amount. If the 7900XT would be a 16GB GPU like the 6800XT (why is that even relevant, when we are comparing 6800XT vs 6900XT and 7900XT vs. 7900XTX?), the memory bus would be 320-64=256bit (64bit per 4GB per the provided specs.).

Strange that they felt the need to design and manufacture different heatsinks for these cards. I guess it just shows that the 7900XT was supposed to be 7800XT at first, or something, but AMD wanted to sell it at a higher price, so were forced to rename it to 7900XT, as the price difference itself does not really make sense for the spec level vs. XTX.

Like 4080, the 7900XT is looking to be worse price/performance than 4090/7900XTX, which is a shame: 87.5% lower core count and 4GB less VRAM vs. 7900XTX, but for 90% of the price, while the 6800XT had 90% the core count with the same VRAM for 65% of the money - bigger spec gap for almost the same price.
Before you post another bunch of nonsense, remember that none of the two new cards compete with 4090. AMD said it officially. With this out of the way, you will need to change your reasoning for comparisons.

We all already know what is the core count, price and performance differrence between 4080 and 4090. It's much wider and bigger than between the two AMD's cards, so your point is really mute here. Silly. Did you do the math for 4080/4090? The real shame is there, and not with Radeon cards.

Do not forget that Navi 21 had three cards initially, including 6800 non-XT. So, there is still space for 7800XT to be released on Navi 31, or on Navi 32 with higher clocks. 7800XT will be priced very similarly to 6800XT and should be ~35% faster. We will wait and see.

I've never owned AMD, but am very interested in this launch and if the XTX performs within 10-15% of 4090, then I'm in for the first time, that's for sure. The savings I can put towards a monitor supporting DP2.1 next year.

But because I keep getting shit for having a CPU that’s faster than 80% of our readers, I've started to retest just the important comparison cards (maybe 8) on 13900K with the existing games. Should be able to barely make it if I sleep the absolute minimum .. Takes about 5 hours per card, you do the math.
I also think that those 80% are probably not going to buy those really expensive GPU that can be bottlenecked by a 5800x, but the people that do might find unfortunate to not get the full scope of what the GPU can do with a more potent CPU (that they probably own if they have that much disposable income for gaming) Nvidia might have killed the mid-range CPU/high end GPU combo with this gen :D

Where do you stop, the 7900X3D is allegedly due in January with allegedly 30% more performance than a 13900.

Do you aim to please the niche of our niche or the masses it's a tricky balancing act.

And IMHO all you asking for this and that test are clearly not involved in testing.

W1zzard clearly already signed up for days and weeks of testing AS IS.
