what was the point of this?
just a "die shot"
no preformance numbers??
only a 50% increase in prefromance pre watt with no proof to back it up?
Seem like a whole a lot of smoke for nothing.
Just wait a couple of hours. The product will be announced soon.

It depends on the usage case.

Some people remove the stock cooler and use full length waterblocks for a custom cooling loop. Often people who do so will periodically clean the waterblock which requires removal and disassembly.

For typical users who stick with the stock cooler, there is rarely a need to reapply thermal compound unless cooling performance drops precipitously after time.

I certainly wouldn't buy a graphics card based on the whether or not the GPU package looked like it was conducive to thermal paste application. But apparently it's a big deal for some people online. That's fine: it's their money.
Unless you buy a Gigabyte GPU. I have noticed they can be skimpy on Thermal paste especially the ones that have heat pipes.

Die reminds me of HBM Memory which I dearly love in their older products.

This is supposed to sway away some potential buyers from nvidia, telling them to wait some more. All in all, we all have to wait for the full line-up.

The advertising train. But there is one mistake. It's not a zen moment because the GPU is a single die. and the memory cache is spread across multiple. Zen is the opposite. One IOD and many CPU chiplets.

Much like video card drivers, AGESA code does not come from board makers.

But of course, its never AMD's fault.
I never said that. I just said I don't see why the GPUs would have issues, it just seems like an evolution of RDNA2.

Those six memory controllers are huge, did AMD ever say they'd put last level cache on them? Seems probable to me.

Balancing two dies and their cache is not going to be an out of the box solution. The MCM GPU design has never been tried before, there's guaranteed to be at least a few major bugs.

Seem like a whole a lot of smoke for nothing.

This isn't the reveal, that happens at 4 PM EDT today.

FYI it's ">50%" increase in performance per watt. 50% is technically incorrect. Mind you this article doesn't mention the PPW, it only shows the leaked photo so that's off topic.

Much like video card drivers, AGESA code does not come from board makers.

But of course, its never AMD's fault.

I had an X370, X470, and X570 motherboard. Didn't have an single issue with any of them.

Issues tend to be exaggerated on the internet and this of course applies to Nvidia or Intel as well. In reality if you are using products from AMD, Intel, or Nvidia you are unlikely to encounter issues outside of niche scenarios or DOA products. I own and have owned products from all three and I can say without a doubt that all of them are great from a stability and bug perspective.

Got them to replace all the thermal interface materials on my card as a warranty repair, as the card was starting to get louder and louder, due to running too hot. Fixed all the issues. Took a week though and that was using the local service centre down the road from where I lived.

I know but to imply that there has to be issues is not fair but I hear you I speculated that AMD will release a 7950XT when the 4090TI is announced form Nvidia.

isn't rdna1 that, rdna2 a zen2 moment and rdna3 maybe zen3 ?

Definitely not, RDNA2 was a Zen moment perhaps, but not even that.

Remember, AMD still hasn't got feature parity nor performance crown; they only have a shiny new arch. RDNA1 was like a crossover from GCN.

Realistically RDNA2 wasn't a massive success either, much like Zen's first wave didn't really do much in market share.

For me I have to send it to California, from Canada. I first discovered it in the Vega 64 but even my 6500XT had the same problem. I am comfortable with changing paste so it really is a non issue as the negative reviews mean that Gigabyte are the cheapest GPUs you can buy. I do see As Rock making inroads maybe it's because they were late in releasing but they are even beating Gigabyte in pricing and their cards are whisper quiet too. I almost bought a 6700Xt for $499 CAD ($363 US) from them on Newegg but it was sold out by the time I convinced myself that I did not want it.

You make two assumptions, one of which your own specs contradict and the other of which creates a scarecrow argument out of my anecdotal evidence as if I implied it was absolute. It wasn't, which is why my comment was about Intel, AMD, and Nvidia all being pretty good.

But I guess that would be too simple, after all you seem in the mood to fight about any little thing just because.

probably would pay 1 grand for this if only they bring hbm3 to the table, that would be a solid card (would mean better cooling, longer service life and potentially lower power consumption, compared to gddr6x). More expensive to make than gddr6x tho
