i mainly still like amd thanks to there graphics tech. was a huge ATI fan, and their APU's have the graphic muscle i want with low power...still want to see benches, i know at least the cpu won't stand up too well against intel but the whole package should do everything i want it to

AMDs look fast on paper but they don't use resources very well so they actually perform really slow in real life situations.

actually they perform pretty well considering the IMC on AMDs are complete poop compared to intel IMCs which offers sky high memory bandwidth.

well cpu wise, i'm fine with amd, sure it would be nice to be faster but it does what i need it to. i like the gpu's and this is an all-in-one package that could replace my current htpc and give me a much lower power usage but similar or better performance...i'm all over that!

why would it in eath be better because of idiot high stock speed?
probally it crappy like faildozer, intel once prove with P4's that high stock clock isn't good,TDP and temp wise
amd musst go back to handcraft cpu's and get better performance per clock instead off high stock clocks and ditch the Module stuff

They could've, but not at the TDP rating they gave your processor at stock. I expect significantly higher stock clocks with Piledriver, while managing to maintain the same power envelope.

The inclusion of meshing technology to decrease power loss is...interesting. This will allow higher operational frequencies, but it also makes that sky-high frequency far less impressive than they should be. Higher frequencies are nice, but they only obscure the fact that the IPC of the processors isn't in the same class as similar Intel offerings.

It's good to see two completely different research lines emerge in the x86 market. Given that ARM is starting to actually be worth competing against in the desktop class market. I'd love to see AMD pull a win out of their collective back ends with Piledriver.

This said, the announcement means nothing. Numbers are what will drive Intel to decrease pricing, and AMD is unlikely to pull out an amazing win. I would love to be proven wrong, but given what AMD is saying that is....unlikely....

Engineers actually calculate how quickly a chip is going to fail at a given speed. That's how they do their binning. That you are willing to trade in its longevity for extra speed is up to you of course.

There was a news post here on TPU about new models of BD chips, one of which was the FX-4170 and was like 4.1GHz stock. So BD can handle it already.

I think it's nice for the average Joe, problem is TPU members tend to be powerusers/gamer/profesionals/benchmarkmonkeys... etc, I have a friend who uses an unlocked sempron oc'ed @3.4ghz with 3Gigs of DDr3 Ram and a 4650 DDr3 and finds his computer is more than enough for his needs, his doesn't care it takes twice the time to encode video or anything of that sort that said brining a 2 module/ 4 core procesor a 4.6 at 100-120$ would be quite tempting to him even as an average joe.

P4 sucked power in their time and most people only cared it was great to have a 1.5 Ghz cpu people rarely worry about how power hungry their cpu is, that said I actually care so it stands average joe will fall for high clock speeds and more coresa and see it as a bargain.

I disagree, The average Joe care more about how much some thing costs. The P4 was more widely used by HP, Compaq, Dell and rarely offered AMD in the store as an alternative, One main reason for AMD sewing Intel.
Oh and Not me I loved my Athlon XP it smoked the Intel P4!
