However I should point out, that depending on your needs a new CPU may not be the best option. As a gamer I believe it will be more worth my while to get a new Mid-High end GPU instead of replacing my A64 X2 3800+ (939).

From your system specs it appears you have a decent CPU as is, so unless you're into some heavy encoding or folding@home stuff... (which can be done on the GPU now) ..it might not be as solid of an investment for you. Just a little food for thought.

Thanks... I think a new mobo and PSU also 2 2900xt in crossfire would be better for games.

I think overall we will be pleased with the coming Phenom line just as we will be pleased to have this new 8 core line in 2009-2010.

Phenom > desktop
Opteron > workstation/server

When adding those facts your statement looks really weird all of a sudden.

i have the same cpu and trust me a 2900XT 1 gig will be severely bottlenecked by it. my x1800xt is already bottlenecked in games like fear

yea doesnt that piss you off? that is why im waiting to buy a 2900xt or 2950 or god knows whatever is next from ATI until after i can get myself a nice quad cpu with 1333 FSB then i wont have to worry about a bottleneck for sometime

If you're on a tight budget wouldn't the graphics upgrade make more sense to get first, and then upgrade the lot. Bottlenecked or no, it will provide better FPS and more features.

That's all I'm saying... prioritize your buy.
