According to a source cited by China's Ithome, AMD has contacted AIB with regards to launch plans for the company's RX 5500, the mainstream graphics cards based on Navi 14. For now, there are still no news on any RX 5500 XT graphics cards from the company - whether or not there is such as SKU being prepared for later launch is still unclear. The launch date of December 12th is in line with previous release expectations, and should be a full launch with multiple AIB partners releasing their solutions.

The RX 5500 has been tested to be a competitor to NVIDIA's GTX 1660 graphics card, replacing AMD's RX 570, RX 580 and RX 590 graphics cards from the product stack. The Navi 14 chip that the RX 5500 is based on TSMC's 7 nm manufacturing technology, is configured with 22 RDNA compute units (1,408 stream processors), and features a 128-bit wide GDDR6 memory bus. VRAM-wise it will be available in either 4 GB or 8 GB of memory running at 14 Gbps data-rate, yielding 224 GB/s of memory bandwidth. GPU clocks are listed as 1670 MHz "Boost," and 1845 MHz "Gaming". Typical board power is rated at 110 W, with a single 8-pin PCIe power input being enough to deliver required power save for some more exotic AIB designs.

Judging by the brochure they will segment the cards with VRAM too.

Seems like the regular RX 5500 will come only in 4GB variants and we'll get the RX 5500XT with 8GB.

To sell many of those, AMD should sell the lower clocked 4GB model for $130-140 and the higher clocked 8GB model for $150-160. Let's see if the XT model has the full chip or only Apple gets them.

That's an awesome amount of bandwidth and performance for a 128 Bit Bus.

Give this I would've thought BF deals for Polaris would be "more" appealing. There a few but nothing that jump out. That said a Sapphire Pulse RX 590 at $170 after Code and the game pack seem to be the best high end deal low end was an XFX 570 4Gb RS XXX for $100.

I would think this RX 5500 4Gb would best an up-setter if the had it with a 139.99 MSRP.

I'm waiting for the RX 5300M; There's already healthy competition and an abundance of choice at the desktop $150 mark, but AMD have almost nothing in terms of laptop dGPU - that's where the competition is needed most!

Too late AMD, too late.
Its primarily an OEM/macbook component with a desktop counterpart, not the other way around. It makes financial sense to sell this. In all fairness the true inheritor to the Polaris/budget mantle will arrive with RDNA2/5nm Navi, where they can scrub off more of the GCN baggage

Yeah it's poor unless you play BattleField V only.
People forget that the MSRP isn't the end of the story. In several areas of the world the 1050 ti despite being massively underwhelming still costs far more than the legendary RX 570. Marketing and general consumer ignorance work in our favour in this instance. I would definitely find this 40-70 USD cheaper than the 1650S, take it home, undervolt and OC it, and have a good 1080p60 gaming experience.

But I need a new midrange videocard now. Was planning to get the gtx 1650 super next week.
But if RX5500 mauls it, I will be pretty upset.

Yep sure.
It is lame like the marketing strategy of AMD. :D
Then learn to assess the product through good tech review sites such as this one. Assuming you read the review above you're knowledgable enough to make an independent assessment of whether the product is good enough for you.

If you're extremely passionate about advertising go to their official youtube channel to enjoy their ads and make a decision purchase.

I was interested in buying the 5700XT these days, but according to several forums there are still driver issues for example stuttering, frame drops. Isnt the 5500 like to have the same problems?
