By this logic a RTX 2080 is the same as a RTX 2080 TI and a RTX 2080 Super since they are all "2080". You voluntarily choose to ignore a part of the model name.

So now you will tell me that "12Gb" and "16Gb" are also part of the model names in this case. Yes, but they directly imply that it's just a memory amount change. NVIDIA did already pull this kind of shenanigans with the RTX 3080 10GB vs 12GB, but at least the specs were relatively close outside of the memory change, unlike the 4080s. They could have called the 4080 16GB a 4080TI instead and it would probably have caused less uproar.

Well, it is a good idea if they change the naming scheme, and drop the digit "9".

Just make the highest card Radeon RXI 100. Then Radeon RXI 110, up to RXI 150 or so.

For as long as I've been following PC hardware (more than 20 years), numbers after the main model used to indicate only different memory sizes, while letters or words like "Super" meant different specs (which could include memory variations). I think everyone got used to this convention until NV started muddying the waters with cards like the 1060.

Doubling the performance of their previous generation is beyond a rumor, it's a lie. We saw the same nonsense with Nvidia that their next gen cards would double performance.

We hear the same rumors about CPU's with potential 50% IPC improvement. Those numbers are never even close to reality so why even publish them?

It is indeed hard to see how they could get there (if baseline is 6950XT) with only 20% more CUs and just two 8-pin connectors.

Gah! Was hoping to see mention of a 7950XT(X). Can't bring myself to lay any money down until these show up. AMD! If they don't show up, you might miss out on my two sales this iteration

WRT to Ray Tracing; it will be interesting to see the results this time around. Just how seriously is AMD taking RT, and... if they're 20% slower than the 4090 at RT, will people say AMD still can't do RT, or similarly, if it's faster than the 4090 (which it won't be, I know), will people say Nvidia can't do RT - or that Nvidia's RT is fine (bit of a reach with that last bit I know - it's been an afternoon of analysis!!!).

If it's different silicon it should be a different model number
If it's the same silicon but different clocks user the XT/XTXmoniker
If it's same silicon but different memory use -16 / -20 (though that doesn't really help if it's GDDR6 on one model and GDDR6X on the other)

1st digit - series
2nd digit - model with series (which silicon)
3rd digit - clock variants/bins of silicon from 2nd digit
4th digit - nothing except maybe a revision number (but since both major players swap back and forth between 3 and 4 digits after they hit 9000/900 series who knows)

-XX for ram configuration
-x for ram type

You could add ram speed into the end of the model number if you wanted as well (it does seem bus width = 16 bits per gig of ram)

and I think you could do an addendum to denote ram type (a for GDDR6, b for GDDR6X etc)

7900XTX becomes - 7900-24a (-20)
7900XT becomes - 7800-20a (-20)

Got a faster 7900XTX with more (32 gig) ram - 7910-32a (-20)

I don't think latency will be an issue, but frame pacing will almost certainly be affected by MCM design.

MCM isn't multi-GPU.

7950 XTX-7970 XTX ||| 4090 Ti-TITAN ADA. I wonder how many of us wanna see the ultimate true maximum potentials from both sides instead of cut-down SKUs for wattage efficiency.
