AMD today released the latest version of its Radeon Software Adrenalin drivers. Version 21.6.1 beta introduce support for the upcoming FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) feature, AMD's answer to the NVIDIA DLSS. We also posted our in-depth review of FSR today. The driver release notes don't mention which exact titles support it at launch, so we'll probably have to wait until a formal launch of the feature. In addition, the drivers also introduce support for the Radeon RX 6800M mobile graphics, and optimization for "Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance."

Among the bugs fixed with this release are one which causes FreeSync to lock up during task-switching, an application crash with "Anno 1800" in DirectX 12 mode; AMD Cleanup Utility accidentally mopping up non-graphics AMD drivers (such as chipset, storage, etc.); lower than expected performance with "Destiny 2" on some products; and enabling raytracing in "Ring of Elysium" causing an application crash. Grab the drivers from the link below.

READ: Our review of AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution

Support For
  • AMD Radeon RX 6800M Graphics
  • Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance
  • AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) support for select titles.
Fixed Issues
  • Radeon FreeSync may intermittently become locked while on desktop after performing task switching between extended and primary displays upon closing a game, causing poor performance or stuttering.
  • Anno 1800 may crash upon launching this game when running DirectX 12.
  • AMD cleanup utility may clean up chipset/RAID installer related folders/registries from the system.
  • Some Radeon Graphics products may experience lower than expected performance in Destiny 2 when compared to previous Radeon Software versions.
  • Upon joining the AMD User Experience Program, the AMD User Experience Program Master service may have higher than expected CPU utilization.
  • Enabling raytracing while running Ring of Elysium on DirectX 12 may cause this game to crash.
Known Issues
  • Resident Evil Village may experience an intermittent application hang or TDR on AMD Radeon VII graphics products in the first mission of the game.
  • Enhanced Sync may cause a black screen to occur when enabled on some games and system configurations. Any users who may be experiencing issues with Enhanced Sync enabled should disable it as a temporary workaround.
  • Connecting two displays with large differences in resolution/refresh rates may cause flickering on Radeon RX Vega series graphics products.
  • An Oculus service error may be received on Radeon RX 5000 & 6000 series graphics products which prevents the Oculus Link setup software from running.
  • Radeon performance metrics and logging features may intermittently report extremely high and incorrect memory clock values.
  • If Ryzen Master is not detected in Adrenalin software after installation, a system restart may be required.
  • If Blue or Black screen is observed in mobile systems, temporarily disable Enhanced sign-in
  • A driver mismatch error may appear when two versions of Radeon software (Windows Store & AMD Support versions) are installed on your system. As a temporary workaround, launch the Windows Store version of Radeon software.
  • AMD is investigating an issue that may cause a small impact to battery life on AMD Ryzen 5000 notebooks.
  • A Blue or Black screen may be observed after updating to the latest Radeon Software. A workaround is to disable core isolation.
  • AMD is investigating a D3 error code that may be seen in some motherboard after updating to the latest Radeon Software.
  • Lower than expected performance may be observed on select AMD Athlon mobile systems.

Either I do not understand anything at all or AMD doesn't care about FSR that much.

When DLSS was released we had a dozen of reviews right from the get go.

AMD FSR? Not a single review. I've found a 1080p lone video on youtube where you can barely see anything and that's it.

GCN 1-2-3 have been moved to Legacy. Wow.

I think it still hasn't launched yet. Arent launches normally at 10am EST?

Lol! I thought this was a feature the whole time! :D

That's a lot of known issues.

That's a lot of known issues.

Almost every GPU driver update is like this regardless of vendor. And most people don't care unless it affects them.

Thank you for your service, GCN1/2/3, you truly aged like fine wine. May the mesa drivers give you plenty of life in your remaining silicon.

Now I have to rewrite our minimum system requirements...

That is in the installation folder you have to find it and run it…there is almost no reason to ever have to turn, but yes don’t go looking for it apparently…

I wish I knew about the Oculus issue with the Quest 2 I bought last week and after a few days suddenly lost link and was back and forth for days with Oculus trying to get my Quest 2 to link again. My GPU was never even considered a factor I’d been using Airlink the entire time just used the charging cable for the original PC link

The list was of Devs involved is pretty extensive and has some major players. FSR can be patched in fairly easily as seen by the current list of games.

I believe Corteks leaked his FSR observations and was not impressed. Yes, performance boost is there, but he found upscaled 4K image quality noticeably inferior (blurrier and lacking in details when you zoomed in) to native 4K resolution even in high quality mode. If Cortekses observations hold water about image lacking details and sharpness, why would one simply not use 1440p instead of upscaled 4K? But that's just one partial opinion so far. I'm waiting for Hardware Unbox and Gamers Nexus analysis to draw any conclusions.

As much as I hate Ngreedia, it saddens me to say GeForce is still the way to go with VR setup. I had lots of VR related problems with 5700XT - WMR HP Reverb combo. Most of my problems were solved when I switched to 2nd hand 1080TI.

I don't know about you, but I always play my games zoomed in using the magnifier x400%; you never know when there's going to be an important pixel you needed to see.

The developers put a lot of effort into these games, let's not throw their pixels away unnecessarily.

It was working perfectly until it just “wasn’t” my biggest mistake was probably removing it from Oculus basically forcing me into the Link issue loop I got stuck in. Seeing as Oculus Support is amazing and I’m also an AMD beta tester, now that I know I can provide whatever info I can to solve it. I sent lots of error log collections to Oculus it has a great “one click” program that just spits out a zip file. Unfortunately it’s been RMA”d as I found a bad Pixel and am waiting for a replacement so I can “start fresh” with all the possible factors this time…

There are 7 supported games and while Anno 1800 and Godfall are the likely suspects due to being somewhat widespread, at least Anno 1800 does not have the FSR patch yet.

should look into that whole Hardware Unboxed disaster, Nvidia is extremely pushy at times its pathetic.

Details matter if you play games on 50-inch screen or use VR headset.

I did not even remember that this Utility exists.
I use DDU whenever I need to cleanup the system from graphic drivers.

Occulus 2 + 6700xt + Virtual Desktop > never has any issue here
works perfectly

"Support for FSR" in concrete games sounds... weird.
It's a generic lib that does thing and runs on most GPUs out there, including 1060.

I could imagine drivers optimizing for certian things, but it should be optional improvement, not a necessity.

And where are the reviews, wasn't it supposed to hit news on 22nd of June???

I personally prefer the native apps before 3rd party ones, but when the former fails...

What is weird about it ? It's an open technology for everyone to use that needs no dedicated hardware or per application training.

People are simultaneously getting their hopes for something revolutionary and amazing when nothing really indicated that.

You either have selective memory or none at all. When RTX series launched it took SIX months for BF5 to implement ray tracing and DLSS 1.0.. There where no "from the get go" reviews

Except it’s not a regular “native app” doing a Factory Reset install is just as effective as DDU. The AMD Cleaner is buried in the installation folder location and is used as a “last resort” and obviously it’s still doing a little too much “cleaning” that s just a warning thatt it’s not working if you do happen to dig around and consider using it. Bottom line is 99% of the time there is never a reason to use it…

There is a 99% chance Earth won't be hit by an effin huge space rock but this chance didn't play out quite nicely for the dinosaurs.

Yes, I agree.
I use DDU also only in cases if I have real issues with driver that I have suspicion that something is wrong with installation.
Mostly in cases like when I change GPU.
For example when I jumped from 6800XT to 6900XT.
