When adding the washers, did you tighten down the screws or leave them a little loose? I tried some Nylon washers on mine yesterday and saw no change whatsoever. My over-clocked card still reaches 114c.
I tightened them down very hard, don't overtighten though

Hey Wizzard or anybody, you overclock the card and run Heaven benchmark...but you don't list the settings or resolution?
I'm using only a subset of the whole Heaven benchmark, so nothing you can easily reproduce

Hey, do you know if the rtx 2080 used for this test is the founder's edition ?
FE cost 800 dollars and is OC, they usually perform 4-5% better than the ones sold at 700 dollars so comparing cards with a 100 dollars difference seems unfair to me. The average difference between stock 2080 and RVII is around 4-5%.

Yes.

And that meager overclock from reference to FE isn't typically 4-5% better...1-2% at most.

Star Control Origins by Stardock is a top 50 game. It should have been in the mix. Are you going to stretch credibility and say very few of the DX12 games are popular? That would be a complete lie.
top 50? "2,607 all-time peak" yea ok if you say so unless you mean bottom 50.

Up to.. but it averaged a mere couple of percent. This is around the difference between stock and overclocked versions of cards (out of the box) anyway.

There are bigger fish to fry is my point. But if you are in the market for a blower cooler reference Turing card, sure.

Check tests, there are 2 games with almost no difference, every others have a 3-4% difference and 2 have a 6,2 and 6,8% difference so it would have been interesting to see how RVII competes in a 20 games benchmark. I'm not saying that it would have changed much in the conclusion but a 10% average difference seems very high for 2 cards meant to perform the same.

Most reviewers write that rtx 2080 and RVII cost the same price, so yes it would have been fair to compare 700 dollars models (not only blowers, there are decent models like msi ventus for this price), OC versions usually cost around 750 dollars.

It may be a bit closer, but the song remains the same as they say. ;)

Also, AMD may have overclocked versions as well so... there is that

No, there are no current custom card announced, not even by Sapphire or PowerColor. It's pretty disappointing because the card works better undervolted and oc at 1850mhz, it reduces its noises and increases its performances.

Its funny because AMD said that, no custom anything... then suddenly we saw powercolor with its red devil cooler on the card. That won't be free.........so who knows what is true or not at this point. But I don;t know why PC would advertise it if it wasn't true...

It is disappointing the card works better like that.. a head scratcher at minimum...one would think it should have come out of the box that way...............

Thanks Wizz! Sucks that it isn't something simple to reproduce but good to know for reference. Do you only use part of the benchmark for any technical reasons or is it just for brevity's sake when you are benchmarking so much stuff?

Without factoring in the noise, power draw (Despite being 7nm) and high $$ tag, the Radeon VII isn't a bad card after closely looking at several reviews. W1zzards wonderful review already gave me this same conclusion. But had to venture out and check another 10-12 sites. The majority all have similar results as W1zzards review. All on par with what this card is capable of.

I hope nobody rates me similarly to this in regards to my performance at anything, lol. Talk about trying to put a positive spin on polishing a turd. However, you are about right sadly. This card is #2....in performance to Nvidia and I think they should make it a poop brown color scheme rather than regular red AMD colors.

Gamer's Nexus had Vega VII tested under water cooling with no additional overclock. As a result it managed to slightly outperform RTX 2080 in half of the cases.

EAT THIS:

As i was speculating, this card has more potential, it sucked because it was simply throttling under bad cooler. With proper cooling it works how it should.

It's a shame users need to spend hundreds to unlock that potential...or undervolt even.

I really, really, really thought about picking one up especially with the water blocks releasing but I just can't do it. By the time I pick up the block, additional radiator, and pieces I am looking at nearly $1k. At that point, I would really just consider a 2080ti. If I could get the block and card for about $750 I'd do it. So I wait, for Navi.

And I grow more skeptical by the month. Where's my sad face? Oh there it is...:(

After the drivers being better for this new gpu (fan curve fix included) and availability getting much better, this video is relevant imho

So maybe AMD should have released it now, when it's finished?

How big are the improvements? Is there a source for people who can read?

Mostly a tie, maybe a slight lead on the R7, with Nvidia winning on sponsored titles, or it's better to say in non driver optimized titles from AMD.
I would still prefer a 2080 only for the better power consumption. Too bad the low end of Nvidia is non-existent.

Fact is the 1080 Ti was a better option... years ago, I guess patience isn't always a virtue. And Nvidia still have those 7nm gains to come... this was what the Vega hype suggested, but failed to deliver when it really mattered.

low end is non-existent? a 1660 for 1080p is amazing. 1660 ti, 2060 - all overclock well and do great for low end.

That's not low end for a third world country.

I don't watch vlogs and I have no idea who "Timmy Joe PC Tech". That'll be just lost 20 minutes on something I have no reason to believe.
I'm hoping for an article from a renown website. This is how these things work - on respect and trust.
If this guy made a video about AMD selling Radeon to Intel, you would just mock his 100k youtube followers and an Instagram account full of family photos. ;-)
