After a few tough months for AMD following the release of Intel’s new Core 2 Duo processors, sales are finally starting to pick up again for the company. During the second quarter of 2007 AMD is estimated to have gained 2.5% in the CPU market, giving it an overall share of 13.4%of total CPU revenues. Meanwhile, Intel has seen its market share fall by 2%, leaving it with a 78.8% share of revenues, still comfortably ahead of AMD. However, AMD has still lost a 3.1% share of the market compared to this point in 2006, with Intel up by 5.4% year-on-year. The recent improvements for AMD are due to increased shipments of notebook, desktop and server processors following a fall in the average CPU selling price.

i wouldnt be surprised if this news results in an price reduction for older Intel cpus just to turn the screw that little bit more on AMD. Personally id like to see both AMD and Intel release their new stuff before Christmas, as it is right now who ever brings out their new stuff first will more likely be getting my cash.

Doesnt matter why they are up, they are just up! So all is not lost. Id expect a slighter increase coming with barcelona and Phenom.

    DESKTOP TECHNOLOGIES AND PLATFORMS:
AMD’s upcoming 45 nm desktop processor family codenamed “Ridgeback,” is planned for a mid-2008 introduction. “Ridgeback” will include 6 MB of L3 cache for increased performance, as well as HyperTransport 3.0, Split Plane, and the new AM2+ socket, which is fully forward- and backward-compatible with existing AM2 motherboards.
 AMD released additional specifications for its next-generation platform for desktops, code-named “Leo.” Based on the upcoming AMD Phenom processor, RD790 Northbridge and SB700 Southbridge chipsets, and R670 and R680 graphics cards, “Leo” will be introduced in 2008.

We can only wait and see.

Haha indeed, I just plan on taking my Dell case apart around Q2 and throwing a R700 or < on an AMD mobo.
