AMD released the latest version of Radeon Software Adrenalin drivers. Version 21.2.2 beta doesn't add any new game optimization (since there haven't been any big releases since the previous 21.2.1 driver release; but fixes a handful legacy issues. To begin with, 3D objects failing to render correctly with the EEVEE renderer in Blender, on "Polaris" GPUs, has been fixed. A performance drop noticed with "Wolfenstein: Youngblood" when Smart Access Memory is enabled, has been fixed. Lastly, AMD addressed a display corruption issue with "Quake III Arena" (yes, that 22-year old game). Apparently AMD discovered display corruption issues during game load and gameplay, with Q3A just now. Grab the drivers from the link below.

DOWNLOAD: AMD Radeon Software Adrenalin 21.2.2

Fixed Issues
  • Objects may fail to render correctly when using EEVEE render in Blender on Radeon RX 400 and Radeon RX 500 series graphics products.
  • Quake III Arena may experience corruption during loading or gameplay.
  • Performance may be lower than expected in Wolfenstein: Youngblood when a system is AMD Smart Access Memory enabled.
Known Issues
  • A system hang or crash may be experienced when upgrading Radeon Software while an Oculus VR headset is connected to your system on Radeon GCN graphics products. A temporary workaround is to disconnect the headset before install.
  • Some resolutions may be unavailable or unlisted in the resolution settings drop down menu for Counter-Strike: Global Offensive when using 4:3 aspect ratio.
  • Radeon FreeSync may fail to enable in Forza Horizon 4.
  • AMD is currently investigating end user reports that Radeon Software may sometimes have higher than expected CPU utilization, even when a system is at idle. Users who are experiencing this issue are encouraged to file a bug report in Radeon Software.
  • Brightness flickering may intermittently occur in some games or applications when Radeon FreeSync is enabled, and the game is set to use borderless fullscreen.
  • Enhanced Sync may cause a black screen to occur when enabled on some games and system configurations. Any users who may be experiencing issues with Enhanced Sync enabled should disable it as a temporary workaround.

I looked this up and it doesn't seem to be a very pervasive issue. There are only a few posts with people having issues over the course of a few years.

That said neither Enhanced Sync nor Nvidia's fast sync are meant to make a huge impact anyways. In fact I would downright recommend against using Nvidia's fast sync as it introduces a worse problem then what it attempts to fix. I have tried and quickly disabled Nvidia's fast sync as it introduce periodic stutter (or perhaps just displays the same frame multiple times). Of course it would be nice if Nvidia finally fixed the DSP delay issue it's had for the last 10 years. I could make a thread on issues I've had with either brand.

These drivers don't work with the 3200G and 3400G. Not sure about the 4700G (which is OEM anyways).

They do seem to work fine with my 3700U and 5900HS, so it seems they missed out on desktop APUs for some reason.

I have the false stupid hope that they will solve something in OpenGL some day.
Plus Vulkan changes are always welcome.

Benchmark Scores Who need bench when everything already fast?
I've tested Q3A with 21.1.2 in menu, time demo and torture demo and I don't see any corruption.
It seem AMD fixed "under volt" issues for now, my card stable again at 950mV.

enhanced sync on amd and its equivalent fast sync on nvidia are useless unless you are getting 200+ fps in games. even then its best to just cap 2 fps lower than max frame rate with rivatuner and let freesync work its magic. thats what i do anyway and it works wonders. not sure why anyone would ever use enhanced sync or vsync for that matter. my games are smooth as butter ever since i started doing it this way.

Some "... with VEGA8" SKUs are missing in the .inf
All the 2021 releases seem affected.
I made a report to AMD.

Latest working driver is 20.12.1 in my new laptop (3500u).

I will test it with 6800XT.
They never mentioned it in the log files but last two drivers changed some boosting curves for 6800XT.
From release driver upto 21.2.1 I went from 2650MHz@1005mV setting in Wattman to 2650MHz@970mV to get same overclock performance and Time Spy score. :p

You may be surprised at the popularity of Quake 3. It is old, but the community is still going relatively strong given its age. It's not like it's some obscure abandon-ware - there would have been quite enough people noticing that there were driver issues and reported it, so more power to AMD for fixing up whatever the cause of the issue was.

It's one of the great things about the PC gaming platform; while AMD and others keep compatibility alive we can continue to play stuff from decades ago if we want to and it's awesome.

Here in the Owner's club, I wrote the setting I am using:

There is no Garantie that your card can reach same frequencies. ;)
This is silicon lottery. There are even some 6800XT that can achieve 2700MHz with Time Spy score above 20K.
Mine cannot achieve that high. Only 2600MHz with Time Score of 19376 is possible. Anything higher than 2600MHz is unstable for me.

I just tried a slider 2400 - 2550 on my non-xt and power mode +15 and voltage 1015 - custom fan curve. fully stable in time spy... got my highest score ever... no issues or artifacts or crashes. time spy graphics score was 16, 451... my stock score with no OC is 13,500... so yeah im very happy... this is awesome. going to leave it just like this :D temps are great.

To achieve the maximum out of your silicon sometimes you need a lot of trials and errors.
It took me a few weeks and endless loops of testing to find the optimum for me.

For stability test, run Firestrike Extreme Stress test or Port Royal Stress Test. If these pass then you are good to go in most of cases.:p
Mine gets 99.7% stability score with the setting I mentioned before.

just used these latest drivers with my new OC - 99.7% passed 3 diff stress tests. 98% on one of them but still passed.

pretty dang happy with this setup. thanks for the extra performance boost. lol

just used these latest drivers with my new OC - 99.7% passed 3 diff stress tests. 98% on one of them but still passed.

pretty dang happy with this setup. thanks for the extra performance boost. lol
You are welcome. :)
Happy to see that it helped.

You can save the settings into a profile in Wattman. Radeon drivers resets the settings to default in case of any no proper shutdown of computer is detected or even sometimes when some games crash for some reason related to driver.
You don't need to manually adjust everything again every time but only relaod saved profile.

I will try these new drivers tonight and see if it changes something with the Frequency Boost curves again.

Finally! I can finally play Quake III! I've been waiting on this fix for so long.
I wish my grandpa was still alive for this. :(

any idea what games use these mesh shaders yet? or what games will in future? @W1zzard

sounds like it could be a game changer far more than DLSS 2.0 was and this applies to both brands. or am I interpreting the article wrong? imagine gaming at 240 fps 1440p 240hz... in all AAA games, that sounds like what this can do... but I am unsure.

Is this a hint that AMD is doing Quake3 Ray Tracing, as their model?
