so, its not a 5 ghz chip, but rather a 4.7 ghz chip that can turbo to 5 ghz? and the 8350 can already hit that speed via overclocking... :banghead:
But 90% of PC users don't overclock.... unless of course you have a perosanl contract with AMD??

I think you're being generous. I think fewer than that really overclock. Most people couldn't even tell you what a BIOS was, forget overclocking. I bet you that it's a fraction of a fraction.

With the advent of automated software overclocking like the OC genie's of this world, i asked them all last week and from the 337 million replies I got I concluded it was actually 9.7% so you are right :D

No one said a tower cooler wouldn't cool the FX-9590. However, a tower cooler or an AIO Liquid cooler are both special coolers. Your claim was that no special cooler would be required, which is wrong. If no special cooler was required then the stock AMD heatsink would be sufficient. I'd like to see you run an Vishera at 5.0GHz on the standard stock AMD heatsink to back up your assertion that no special cooling would be required.
You misunderstood my comment. I said that no special cooling is required for operation at the 5.0 GHz. frequency. A std. tower cooler isn't considered "special" cooling by most people who would buy a special 5.0 GHz. (expensive), CPU. "Special" in my comment meant water cooling or phase change.

You keep saying "a standard AMD heatsink"... A standard AMD heatsink is whatever AMD decides to ship with a particular processor. They vary in size and thermal capacity. If AMD decides to package a CLC as they did with the FX-8150 then that would be the "standard AMD cooler" for the FX-9590 CPU. If they decided to package a tower cooler with the FX-9590 CPU then that would be the "standard AMD cooler". The standard coolers tend to change with each processor model and generation.

It was always reported that the FX-9590 would run @ 5.0 GHz. in Turbo mode, not as a base clock. I don't believe the 220w is actually TDP but in fact total consumed power, which is not the same as TDP. Many people including me are running OC'd FX-8350's @ 4.7+ GHZ. on highend air cooling and even under 25 hours of P95 stress testing the CPU does not overheat. There is no reason to think the actual TDP on the FX-9590 is above 165w, IME.
The lack of fundemental Physics understanding is, again, staggering. This comes up all too often

Energy in = Energy out unless you have found a way to get around thermodynamics

I was actually searching for some OC FX gaming benchmarks and ran into this chart from bit-tech:

That's whack!
It was known that AMD chip is not good on this particular game.

I think that 1% has grown a little though, with the advent of software based auto overclocking like OC Genie and Easytune some just click the button and get a mild overclock.
