The AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D is the company's new flagship gaming processor. It introduces 3D V-Cache, a dedicated piece of silicon with additional L3 capacity. In our review, we're testing how much the larger cache can help intensive gaming workloads and applications and compare it to the Intel Core i9-12900KS, too, of course.

"1.35v is the highest the vcache supports, therefore the maximum possible frequency is 4.5 GHz"

yeah that's cute, tell me more

Hopefully AM5 won't have these.. Funny features, let's call them that, yes.

W1zzard, use Curve Optimizer on this one, should help keep clock speeds higher on high thread use.
Does it support the +200MHz of AutoOC?

Quick Word on voltages – AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D

As you saw, I rushed a little more than I do than regular reviews so data is being added through the day. Someone did ask me about OC and while we found out that a lot of AMD OC menu is locked up (no Curve Optimizer) it made me wonder about voltage behavior in single thread and multi thread situation.

Hence run a Cinebench R23 run (in both scenarios) and the CPU behaves way different than a Zen 3 non 3D V-CACHE CPU.

According to GIGABYTE ITE sensor and SVI2 TFN, VCore in CBR23 single core test, it is running at 1.20-1.218~ VCore during the test. That is way lower than most Zen 3 chips, which favor high voltage to keep high boost while there’s single core loads.

Meanwhile, at CBR23 multi-core test, VCore is actually higher, with 1.248ish volts. Zen 3 with 3D V-CACHE, in this retail sample, behaves differently from regular Zen 3 CPUs.

In the perf/$ charts do you include the cost of the ram and mobo or is it just CPU prices compared?

No OC, no PBO, no multiplier changes, no BCLK changes

Just the CPU price, a motherboard for this CPU costs like 40 € only, A320 chipset

Nice uplift in Farcry 5, up to 35% at 720p but besides that, it's a meh.
Totally irrelevant at 2160p today.

Exactly. Have been doing some tests @4K with my new (finally!) 3080 and tbh if I limit my 5950x to single CCD and 6 cores/ccd (6 cores in total like a 3600x) it doesn't make a difference.

everyone knows that at higher res any modern hyperthreaded 6 cores CPU can almost match any high end CPU in most gaming scenarios.

Pretty good overall I guess. Someone needs to slap this on a b550 unify x to see if bclk oc is possible. X570 is good for 101-102mhz while b550 can ramp up to 107mhz.

Perhaps agesa updates will help in the games that show little change.

It has entered mass production which means in the next weeks we will see the official launch.

Since upscaling with DLSS now, and in the future FSR2.0 and XeSS will become more and more common I would argue that maybe not 720p, but at least the 1080p results are more relevant in CPU benchmarks than it has ever been for 4k gaming.
Personally I find the 5800X3D interesting and I might just get it as an easy replacement for the 3600 in my secondary PC. Paired with a 6800xt for high refresh 1440p gaming the 5800X3D should be a decent upgrade.

Benchmark Scores bench...mark? i do leave mark on bench sometime, to remember which one is the most comfortable. :o
ohhhh interesting .... it turns out that non OC "fiasco" CPU, as some thought, is not much of a fiasco ... in short just the 3DV addition and Zen3 compete with ADL, without hybrid BS ... (yeah sorry ... not a fan of Intel hybrid implementation, i mean big.LITTLE and hybrid are good in certain scenario but not all )

well ... i am impressed, although a 5700X will be good enough for me later :) to replace my 3600 (i mean ... 8c/16t upgrade for lower pricing than the 5600X is all good!)
glad AMD still deliver.
