Thai PC enthusiast TUM_APISAK discovered a Geekbench 5 database listing for an upcoming AMD Ryzen 9 5950X "Zen 3" processor, obtained on MacOS. Don't worry, Apple isn't making an AMD-powered iMac Pro as its x86 swansong, because the listing points to a Hackintosh setup using Acidanthera boot-loader. The 5950X engineering sample scores 17448 points multi-threaded, and 2024 points single-core. Here's the best part—the processor appears to be overclocked to 6 GHz, as pointed out in the gb5 files of the benchmark listings, which show the processor's frequency swing between 5931 MHz and 6023 MHz during the test. harukaze5719 compiled a nice bar-graph that compares the 6 GHz overclocked 5950X "Zen 3" to 5.88 GHz overclocked 3950X "Zen 2," and other processors in its class, such as the Core i9-10900K. Find the Geebench listing here.

I don't think that's Z3N.
I believe Zen 3 is actually Family h19 or h20.

It's not unexpected when you consider Intel's mainstream product stack has to offer. I'm sure there's people on the macOS side that want 16 cores outside of the ThreadRipper category.

not bad, and ..at last!
take long time for amd to get 7nm cpu goes 6ghz.
but, what a heck..with Mac?
not good yeat. hmm

well, anyway, real compare, somehow ,we get june 2021, when finaly ,intel 10nm cpu coming, its hydrib cpu,and what i read internet, its very powerfull.

but, 1st ocf coz, intel answer for vermeer, called Rocket Lake, pure gaming cpu...let see.

Rocket Lake coming march/2021

i except that Rocket Lake take easily gaming cpu title and Adler Lake raise cpu performance total new level.

so, looks year is 2021,when we really can see how good or bad amd ryzens are.

exited.

Oh hell yeah dude. As soon as Apple slipped out the kernel patches for Ryzen in 2017 it took off. Started a little rocky early on but things are way easier now.

Been rocking an R7 3700X in 10.15 Catalina for nearly a year, and it's as stable as my old i7 3700K I ran for 8 years. Performance is 100% flawless!

That's fine, as long as that's understood. The Ryzen hype can be quite strong, especially with them finally overtaking Intel on gaming performance, supposedly (interested in seeing a real review). I didn't want anyone seeing 6GHz and jumping the gun, thinking we're actually going to see chips overclockable to 6GHz by just anybody.

The actual gains over Zen 2 here are suspect, IPC+clock advantage should be a bigger margin. I call shenanigans.

Maybe it's related to the memory used.

It's well known that Ryzen processors perform the best with high-speed RAM. 1200 Mhz is DDR4 2400 MHz. Far from optimal.

This makes no sense, unless for 5.88GHz they meant "3950X" instead of "3900X". The results as shown are impossible given just the difference in core counts.

Everything about this is utter BS.

Mac? Geekbench? Comparison chips? Everything is simple clickbait lies.

IIRC the current LN2 record for a 3900X is only ~5.6GHz, yet this guy happens to have surpassed that by 300MHz and is casually using that as a comparison for his 6GHz engineering sample.

Yeahhhhhh, okay. I'm gonna back away slowly from this article and close the door.

AMD-OSX, Algrey, and Shaneee came up with the patches. Bronya rocked the early custom kernels for Mavericks-Sierra. Ryzen has been in OSX since a couple weeks after launch.

It's the newer 5x00 series, not the 3x00 series. Yes it's possible by a more refinement of the proces to extract another 300Mhz, esp on LN2 out of it. I mean the world record clocks is above 8.4Ghz on LN2 / LH and on water 6Ghz for the FX series. It's not uncommon, but this 7nm proces is'nt just capable of running extreme high clocks.

No, I wasn't talking about the 5950X. I'm saying that the 5.88GHz of the 3900X used is fake. The current #1 geekbench world record for any 3900X is 5.65GHz. This idiot is pretending he blew past that world record and didn't bother validating it? Yeah, right....

Hi,
May times I've seen highest clocks only at single core
Same for memory oc single channel.

Who do you think signed those patches? :)

I.E. if Apple didn't want you in their playground...You get where this is going.
