AMD will be raising their prices for AMD64 and AMD64 X2 CPUs on the 10th of April. Yes I said raise. It will only be "a few dollars", but should still offer a great price/performance according to AMD. The AMD64 FX prices will remain the same, while the Sempron will drop in price on May 15th.

AMD will announce the new socket AM2 CPU pices on May 15th as well.

This makes sense if there is no real contender to the soon pricier product... and yes, that seems to be the case, Intel has no real alternative to offer. Which is bad, in the short-term interest of consumers (higher prices), but good even for us consumers in the long run (Intel being Goliath, AMD the David...).

And Mai is spelled Mai in most parts of the world... if the english cannot even spell correctly the words they adopt from foreign languages, their fault :) btw "meen" is actually spelled "mean". :p
May (the month) is not derived from Maia, the mother of Mercury, as the word existed long before either Mercury or Maia had been introduced. It is the Latin Maius- i.e. Magius, from the root mag, same as the Sanscrit mah, to grow; and means the growing or shooting month.
So by leaving away the gender-indicating latin ending -us, the word is mai, not may, from an etymological point of view.

shouldnt matter really...most people who are getting one already have their A64 (X2). Though, with Intel's realease of 65nm processors and M2 not coming out for another couple months, this seems a little foolhardy, dont you think? AMD is good at keeping M2 details secret...as far as I know, the only difference between the M2 and s939 is...DDR2?

i think X2s were a little "unknown" at first.. now pretty much everyone is saying u must have dual core and their position is set so to speak they jack the prices up.. i think its just a supply and demand thing..

my logic has always thought the price difference between single and dual should always have been greater.. right from the word go..

the decision to up the dual prices was quite clearly made before the conroe announcement thow.. he he he

trog

AMD CPUs have been, for a long time, both faster and cheaper. Nowadays they are not necessarily cheaper any more and if the new gen of Intel CPUs come out, they may also lose the performance crown.

So what can (should) AMD do? Release a processor to compete with Conroe at a similar price point and cut that of the FX60 at least by half.

yes there are plenty of motherboards at CeBit... :) even nforce 500 series from what I have read.

I would seriously wait, if you have made it this far, the 3 months left should not matter, then you can upgrade to AM2 with DDR2 and all the bells and whistles ;)

There are quite a few of you, who have recently joined: Welcome to TPU!.com

i hate this, back in 2003 the best amd cpu was like £150 (amd xp 3200 skt A which was the best at that time for home pc's, skt 754 wasnt even out)(double that figure for us dollar) and then in like 2004 the best amd cpu was like £550 (fx 55 whe it first came out 130 nano version) and now the best amd is like £750 (fx 60). but really the fx 60 should have replaced the fx 55 price and should sell for £550 or even like 2003 top end amd cpu price of £150 but why the fuck didnt it, i hate amd's prices now.

same with graphic cards, 2003 an 9800XT was £320 when it first came out. and now the x1900XTX is like £420, but it should be £320 keeping the top end card the same price and the one before it (x1800XT) reduced in price.

A top end pc is more expensive nowdays then it was it 2003, price increase has also happend on mother boards. the only thing that has gone cheaper since 2003 is DDR400 memory, but mobo, gpu, cpu have increased in price over time

You kno you posted this twice...And its not just AMD...hell its not even just Computers. Everything goes up in price. If you wanna complain about this why dont you complain about grocery prices, gas prices, etc. Everything goes up in price as time goes on. It is called inflation. On top of that, when a company becomes more popular, they usually raise prices. So stop complaining b/c INFLATION doesnt go away.

quote "u missed out the FX57 that cost £750.. the FX60 replaced that" very true but why didnt the fx 57 replace the fx 55 wich was £550 when it came out. the fx 60 should cost £550 just as the fx 55 did
