Ran in to this a few months back...I do trust that this gentlemen does his best to be honest about what he's doing...I've been watching him for quite awhile. Whether his implications are correct or not, I thought it worthy of some consideration.

After attempting to purchase a used RX 480 and it not working out too well, I've decided to wait for AMD's announcement and use my current GPU(Vega 8) until then.

Just thankful I have that option.

Best Regards,

Liquid Cool

Vega Frontier/64/56 is the same chip. only difference is drivers and VRAM.
If there's a 7nm shrink it makes sense to have cards for both prosumers and gamers, as is the case currently.

Yes yes
Radeon Pro Vega 20 Dec 1st, 2018
Vega 20 64 January 9, 2019

perhaps 2048 bit HBM2 - bandwidth 616GB/s same as 2080 Ti, performance as 2080.

When I watched the video a couple of days ago (in fact I even posted about it) it only had a few thousand views, now it's over 100,000.
I bet AdoredTV was one of the viewers, a counter video should be popping up :)

So if it's Vega again, why is this an answer to RTX?

edit: Would be pretty cool to have 7nm CPU and GPU though.. when both are available. Just because.

So Vega is already being shrunk to 7nm and according to AMD, this alone provides a 35% performance boost which many find to be a conservative number and note we aren't even talking about 7nm Navi yet. With Vega 7nm getting a 35% performance boost, it would surpass the performance of a GTX 1080ti. The reason this would be an answer to RTX is that if AMD released a gaming version (which is highly speculated) and the price point was competitive (in the mid $500 range), then AMD would have a card that would be not only cheaper than a GTX 1080ti, but one that would also outperform one too. If this happened what would be the point of paying more for a RTX card when you can get a cheaper AMD card that outperforms a GTX 1080i? With the ridiculously high prices of the RTX line-up, GTX 1080ti-like performance could be the new high end sweet spot.

Exactly like he's saying. Because it's a die shrunk Vega. Which means, minimally, higher clocks and less power consumption. Which, even if it doesn't directly compete with the higher end RTX cards performance wise, can be priced to offer a cheaper alternative. Than say a 1080 Ti. Which it might perform just as well as, or better than. I'm going to be a little miffed it that turns out to be the case. As I would have saved my money and waited for that. Instead of buying my Vega 64 recently. But who knew? Not I anyway. :(

Thanks clarifying that. Seriously. I was just now reading this thread, and beginning to wonder if anybody here had enough of a brain in their head to realize that. Looks like there's at least a few of us that do. ;)

"It's just going to be a compute card". You mean like every recent graphics card? Yeah...piss poor reasoning. Get a clue people.

I mean, it is all speculation at this point, but the video I posted does bring up a lot of very good points. It also seems that Nvidia rushed the RTX line out in a panic which could mean that they know something that we don't know.

It has been the same for a few cycles of RTG GPU release now:

hype hype hype HYPE HYPE (release) disappointment

Rinse and repeat

The video feels like click bait routed in more guesses than even I made.

Yeah it's absolutely hilarious that we can't speculate at all. The amount of Intel / Nvidia bias on these forums is ridiculous hahaha.

Since your the self-dubbed, resident expert, then do you care to explain why Nvidia rushed out the RTX cards when just a few months earlier they said that there wouldn't be any new gaming GPU line-ups for a very long time?

I am interacting the way I am because the naysayers haven't brought anything to the table and dismiss this with a firm "this won't happen statement". Why won't it happen because AMD said it won't? Yeah because AMD and Nvidia always tell the truth. I created this thread because I thought it would create a really good discussion, but for the most part the "good discussion" has been non-existent.

AMD- Nvidia I don't care as long as there is competition. Again, it doesn't make a whole lot of sense for Nvidia to release the RTX cards unless Nvidia actually knows something that we consumers don't.

He firmly speculates that Vega 7nm may be the best route for AMD that they never said they wanted to go.

You're asking us to prove to you that what you speculate out of thin air is false. In other words, facts can't really convince you but your speculation is non-debatable.

Tell me where I am wrong in my thinking and tell me what is wrong in the video, then we can have a legit conservation, but saying this won't happen or omg a youtube video isn't going to get us anywhere. Can anyone on here even dismiss any of the points that the video made? I am still waiting.... I am not trying to be a jerk, I am just trying to have a serious conversation.

Explain what ? Read what people have been telling you for the last two days.
This video is just another one that pushes wishful thinking into the heads of red team support base.
Have you learnt nothing from how AMD has been operating for the last three years ?

Oh right, cuz AMD said. Great argument man! Nvidia also said at Computex 2018 that they weren't going to release any new cards for a very long time and that didn't happen. So based on your logic once a company says something that automatically shoots down all possibilities for something different. Great logic! :p

That was two companies in two absolutely different scenarios. Nvidia was selling Pascal like hot cakes.

I hate to say that, but your thinking is not very sharp.

So this brings me back to one of my original points, if Pascal is already selling like hot cakes, why release RTX? Just to increase Pascal sales? Or could there "possibly" be a different reason?
