AMD to Supply Only a Few Thousand Radeon RX 6700 XT GPUs for Europe at Launch

The global supply chain of graphics cards is currently not very well equipped to handle the massive demand that exists for the latest generation of GPUs. Just like we have seen with the launch of NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3000 series Ampere, and AMD Radeon RX 6000 series Big Navi SKUs, the latest generation graphics cards are experiencing massive demand. And manufacturers of these GPUs are not very well equipped to handle it all, so there is a huge scarce for GPUs in the global market. With AMD's recent announcement of the Radeon RX 6700 XT graphics card, things are not looking any better, and the availability of this GPU could be very tight at launch.

According to information obtained by Igor's Lab, AMD could supply only a few thousand Radeon RX 6700 XT GPUs for Europe as a whole. To be precise, Igor's Lab notes that "If you condense the information of various board partners and distributors to a trend, then there are, depending on the manufacturer and model, only a few pieces (for Germany) to a few thousand for the EU as a whole." This could be a very bad indication of AMD's supply of these new GPUs globally, not just for Europe. The company is currently relying on the overbooked TSMC, which can only produce a limited amount of chips at the time, and we don't know how much capacity AMD allocated for the new chip.

This is what you get for good performance uplift. Consoles and pc... we can for sure wait for next gen cpu's where uplift wont be that big like this time.

said it once already, but I would love it if they could pull an Intel and backport this to 12nm so that Global Foundry can produce these instead.
Sure it wont be as good etc, but atleast it will be.....available.

If nobody starts 100%-blocking mining on graphicscards alltogether, then the gamingindustry will fall into hybernation for 10 years or so, no RT trickling down the stack or with wider usage in games, nobody able to play games with unrealengine 5 because old stuff may be too slow, and new stuff is not in reach.
I will go full Intel if the Graphicscards are okay, just to give the miningloving Ngreedia and AMD zero of my money, intel wont need it but will get it.

AMD supplied MILLIONS of chips for PS5 and XBOX in just the past year alone but can only supply a few thousand of their own (more profitable) chips for worldwide distribution huh. Something doesn't add up, are they also selling their inventory directly to mining operators? 2,000 cards for all of Europe at launch is considered significantly more inventory? lets say they supply 2,000 every week for 1 year, that's 108,000 cards for the EU market meanwhile they will have supplied millions of chips for consoles in that same period for the lowest possible negotiated profit margins.

I want to know exactly how many cards they are putting into the Retail and AIB channels because I suspect most of these cards are never making it to market, they are being siphoned out somewhere either by direct-to-miners agreements or aib-to-miners loopholes as none of us are seeing ANY of these cards.

What the hell are they doing with their production lines? What's going on in the last damn year or so?

And why can't/won't anyone explain what's causing it? Is TSMC stretched too thin? But then aren't nvidia chips being produced by Samsung? Is there a raw materials shortage? Aren't they producing to full capacity because of covid? Can't they export all the parts because of covid? All they parrot is "massive demand". Pascal had massive demand and it wasn't a problem.

You been asleep or something?

There was a pandemic for starters. It never stopped either.

And why can't/won't anyone explain what's causing it?
I think we explain in every thread like this lol. The answer is simple and even been stated by fab officials.

Pascal had massive demand and it wasn't a problem.
It's massive demand from stay-at-home COUPLED with reduced output because you can't exactly make gpus, dies, or really much electronic that way... at home.

It's a double whammy, with zero ability to scale to it.

I must have missed it then. What is it? TSMC overbooked? How is that affecting nvidia?

Mining to a gpu driver is just compute, which games use. That's part of the issue. Banning compute would break tons of games. Not banning it means a whitelist or something.

Samsung is hit by the same global pandemic that is reducing worldwide production of nearly everything my man.

My dad can't get a garden tractor without hopping on a wait list right now. What makes you think this is any different?

Plus Samsung’s Texas fab is down. Reportedly even Qualcomm is experiencing shortages. (Samsung makes the higher end Snapdragons and lots of other chips used in smart phones.)

The few cards that will be available on launch day will be bought by the bots for the scalpers same like with 6800XT and 6900XT.:(
Both of these were gone within minutes and many reappeared on eBay a week later for much higher prices.:wtf:

There is a shortage of components everywhere.
In the automotive sector where I am working, we have hard time to get enough part to supply the OEMs with different control units.

Pascal's demand is nothing compared to what this is and you have to combine that with everything going on today, again, even car manufactuers cant get the chips to build their cars....so you know things are not good across the board.

It's a good thing the manufacturers have trained the tech press beforehand.
Just like Pavlov's dog that would drool at the sight of light, with no food in sight, the tech press reports product launches at the sight of marketing slides, even if the product is nowhere to be seen.

The same as the 6800 series then, it's not so much miners or scalpers, just very few getting made.

Yes, the reduced production is apparent, I'm not disputing that. Just that the reasons why haven't been made crystal clear. At least not to me. I guess I'll just internalize it's many things.

For example, does your dad know exactly why he can't get a tractor right now? A specific component shortage? Shipping delays?

I am glad I didn't buy a bigger monitor. RX 580 can still let me play at 1200p on ultra just fine.

I guess a few thousand for the EU is significantly more than nothing.

Other thing: I'm wondering why the current generation of GPUs are so scarce (don't blame the pandemic, that ship sailed long ago), and if the situation is ever going to improve. It would be nice to upgrade my 5700 XT to a 7700 XT at least - I doubt the 6700 XT will be miles faster anyway.
