This isn't the last of what K8 and AMD's 65nm has to offer.
Next generation transistor (a new stepping) for 65nm K8 should appear early 07.

ok first off, 65nm will come first to almost unaltered k8 cores, should be seeing them poping up anytime, then mid next year k8L will show up, the one advantage of the new 65nm chips will be higher clocks with lower temps/volts, this should be a very exciting time for amd users who already have am2, if not, well u got what you got.

i was just told by a buddy at intel test labs that they aquiered 2 65nm chips, he dosnt know where they got them(nobodys talking) but they are easly clocking to the max the boards can handel at 1.4v, he said one of them is running at 355x12 (chipset/board can do more then 355 stable) thats 4260 at 1.4v they didnt try lower volts from what he said, hes gonna try and test it come more himself over the weekend(he can work some overtime and play with some of the new toys without alot of other people getting in the way...)

oh and temps where maxed at 35c with stock cooling from a sempy64(a chip they fryed by giving it 2.7volts ROFL) thats crazy, little cooler+slow fan+high overclock=low temp........

im trying to get him to take me with him this weekend, i just wana see these chips, play with them, see if im gonna be forced to buy one when they come out :p

yeah seems its not a current gen, its the new version that will be out as g2 or g3, so im waiting till they are avalable, they use a diffrent prosess/design they arent SOI(cant remmber the new accrinim) im probbly gonna get to go out and see them this weekend, his boss approved him working saterday and sunday if he wants and he said i could probbly tag along if he desides to work this weekend(waiting to hear if his gf is comming up from college for the weekend)

he said that most likely it will be a 1-1.5 months b4 the newer revision of the chips comes out :) so give it 2-2.5 months b4 we can get them from newegg for a reasonable price.

Uh.. every single K8 has SOI, and most newer ones are SSDOI.

Whoever told you that is full of it. Theres no way AMD could/would drop SOI simply because it would require a re-masking of the Die, and thats upwards of tens of thousands of dollars, letalone the testing.\

Tho honestly, this is another case of the classic: Screenshot or it didn't happen, Scenario.

ok, i was missunderstanding what he ment, its SOI BUT its a diffrent type of silicon, it uses the same equipment to make the chips but the silicon is an alloy of sil and anther meterial.
Silicon germanium alloy, so no new equipment is needed, just a change of wafers.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silicon_germanium
or something like it, its something intels been looking into but probbly isnt gonna bother with because they want to move to 43nm insted.

i would have screenshot it but they didnt have any way i could post shots from there and i didnt have a flashdrive on me(they dont have floppys or blank cd/dvd media around the lab sorry)

and the "stock" cooler he was talking about wasnt a retail stock like i thought, its an old cooler master unit, copper slug in bottem and TALL fins(about 1/2 ta 2/4 taller then stock coolers) it came with the chip when they got it from amd.

his boss stoped in and it seems they probbly got the chips from amd dirrectly but he wasnt sure, they get chips from and amd gets chips from them due to the cross licencing deal amd and intel have(its what allows amd to have sse1/2/3/4 and mmx, and allows intel to use amd64) intel uses the amd systems to test addin cards they make such as nic's to insure compatability of hardware and drivers.

did get to see that thing, and hot damn, its fast, the 2nd chip acctualy dosnt have a lable on the IHS and is unlocked 512k chip, duno if its sposta be some kinda fx chip or what but the boards they had didnt proper reconize the chips, they came up as unknown prosessor@xxxx mhz.

they had, asus crosshair, asus matx 6150 board, ULI based board(no brand name on it, no locked pci eather), they had 2 r200 based matx boards 1 ecs/pcchips and a foxxconn, and 2 sis boards(755 and 756) then boards with 550/570/590, they plan to order an amd3200 board for testing since they have started becoming more common(4 versions avalale)
the nf4 boards they had where not great for clocking, i only tested a few boards but all even with latest bios couldnt properly reconise the chips.

on the up side they have 8 am2 chips of this gen they will be getting rid of in the next 6 months and tim may beable to hook me up with one, possably an x2 opteron :D

if i get it i will do a post on it, im hopefull but not gonna count on it, by that time i may already have a g2 chip ;)

Silicon germanium is whats being used in prescotts..
Old news ;)

However, yes, all ES CPU's are unlocked.

the 12x one isnt unlocked, but the unmarked one is strange since they are sposta be the same gen.

didnt know they moved to it, guess he was talking about some other prosess/mererial that intels not gonna consider.

i know that a few companys are working on CNT tech insted of silicon because it would get past the limmits sil has, so far only a few companys have found ways to use them, motorola is working on them for LCD/Plas screens, i cant find the artical i was reading about it but they have found ways to get what they want from them, but it still needs more money thrown at it to be ready for wide spred use.

but hey, imagin what cpus will be like when that happens, crazy fast!!!!!

We would have to eventually either move to optics, or diamond... or both. Once we hit that point, we'll probably be strongly reconsidering the whole binary thing.
